Mitts is a skilled perimeter player, his place in the Sabres lineup is that of a role player which he struggles (consistently) at.

He shined playing top 6 minutes, the only way that happens is if you move one of Tage, Cozens or Quinn, Peterka down the lineup.

Another similar situation that is and will continue to be problem when building the roster...too many players are the same.

It was clear that Olofsson was the anchor holding Mitts back.

With that being said, playing with Skinner and Tuch also helped.

The question is now, who does Mittelstadt play with next year, and what does a potential contract extension look like ?

He is inconsistent, and yes the whole team was at points. But I have seen it every year with Mitts. Some of the others are just starting there careers.

One stopped producing towards the end of the season and no one’s mentioned it, the other had a rough start to the season and exploded at the end.

He's an elite playmaker though. Plays the D-side pretty well. Looked like a real gamer in the top 6 at the end of the year.

2 biggest things early this year were "KA needs to get a serviceable D-man to help with these injuries" and "Why tf are these 2 black holes still together"

They could/should have acted one of or the other early this year and were probably in better moods around this place.
