If there is one place in the league where Olofsson would make sense, I think Carolina is it.

They always woefully undershoot their expected goals.

He’s a guy that could go on a PDO bender when you need him to.

Question, would Rod pull his hair out with the rest of his game

If he hated Skinner as much as is rumored he'd go nuclear on Olofsson

I think Carolina is an example of putting too much emphasis on underlying numbers and not having enough variance in the type of player you have.

They are a well oiled machine but they have very limited offensive creativity besides Aho.

You can’t just set out to build a team of all 54% XGF forwards and not have some combination of skill sets

I mean all good teams have good underlyings.

Carolina generates a ton of scoring opportunities, they don’t give up a ton.

At the end of the day the pucks that go into the net are the ones that end up mattering. Olofsson has the shot to beat goaltenders.

No difference then Thompson outshooting his expected goals consistently.

Yes but they don’t have 12 forwards that are all + players all the time.

They would’ve been better off going for an Olofsson at the deadline than Jesse P who was of course an XG% merchant but couldn’t score to save his life.

100%.

Pacioretty being available long enough for a cup of coffee and the Svechnikov injury were also some terrible injury luck.

I’m not about to feel sorry for Carolina losing out on their cup winner due to injuries though.

Just over a year ago:

6/10/22
Bishop + a 7th for Future Considerations

That's how you start an offseason! If they wait, maybe the don't get the 7th.

Adams learned well.
This offseason he went 2 weeks earlier with the Dad signing.
Woof.

I’ll call my shot now

Olofsson+ Rosen + pick 39 for Brett Pesce and a minor piece. Pesce agrees to a 6 year 33 mil extension

Fine sold let's go

Oh no cancel that I don't want to block novikov

Unless I miss it, seems the Sabres are running it back with all their assistant coaches? So, whoever was in charge of the PK will likely be again. Vibes, I guess?

Their contracts expire july 1 i believe so if a change happened it would be after that date.

Wonder if Olofsson (50% retained), Lindgren, 39th (Flyers pick) 45th (our own) could get it done.

Pegs, I know you don’t have the time to look at prospects like you used to but I was wondering what you thought about 13. If Reinbacher and Pelilkka are gone, is Wallinder a worthy pick? Or would there likely be a forward that fell that’d be too good to pass up? Like Leonard or Perrault. Or would Simachev be a better choice?

If I am taking a d-man it would be Simashev. I think a realistic comp for him is Samuelsson ironically enough (higher upside potential though if the offensive game improves as he is a better skater)

I personally believe though the best player available will be a forward.

Thanks. I think the Johnson signing (surprising to me) along with Novikov and Komarov coming over takes some pressure off of an unbalanced pipeline.

Whether they go forward or d-man, there aren’t many players they can take in that spot that I think I’d be upset with.

Going to be 5 or 6 guys available at 13 that I’d take in that spot and sleep peacefully (especially if a wild card like Michkov, Benson, or Moore fell into our lap)

I think you have to include a first or former first. Because EDM will probably offer their 24 1st rounder

Carolina was the best team I saw in person vs the Sabres this year. Their skating and puck movement was amazing and they were 3 steps ahead of the Sabres.

What they are missing is …. A go to goal scorer. With all the insanely analytical guys they have …… older pacheretty and Brett burns was their answer

I put the Pesce idea on Twitter early today in response to an Olofsson to CAR idea.

Pierre LeBrun apparently said the Sabres have checked in on him.

I had no idea. Just a random idea I thought of and now I think it’s my favorite option

- sbroads24

I think people need to understand that Adams literally checks on tons and tons of players availability.

The Sabres are always linked because Adams does indeed check on the price.

So we need to pump the breaks for m any player we read about the Sabres interested in

Perhaps I should get some sleep, but I think 39 and 45th in terms of value is equivalent to a late first.

I would probably take my chances with the caliber of prospects available this year instead of Edmonton’s late first next season.

All we would need is Carolina to agree with that sentiment.
