Last month it was Florida that we should emulate. They didn’t win so now it’s Vegas. - shack67
I trust the Tree won't be quite so chaotic.
I think there are some similarities between Vegas, TB, and the Avs. A nice balance of size and skill. Lots of experience. I think they all had a different kind of 'size' and 'difficult to play against' factor that our Leafs need to improve.
All those teams had nice balanced top4 d pairings. Two stars playing with two solid types. Martinek-AP and McNabb-Theodore.
I really think we miss Muzzin (the good Muzzin) ...need to find another better than average D. |

Think Dubas pulls any players or prospects from the Leafs? - Santo_44
I don't know if they have anything we'd want. The only player we have that I think reasonably moves to a team like Pittsburgh is Timmins, but for what return? We can use him at $1.1m more and better than the value they'd offer in a trade for him.
They would be better off working on getting their players to waive their NMC/NTCs and start blowing it up.

|
To be honest I don’t know why that has to be explained in here. - shack67
They left the expansion draft with a loaded team and managed to pick 6th, 13th and 15th in their first draft.
Honestly surprised they didn't win it sooner with the assets they had to play with. |

Lay out Tkachuk early in the series and Florida folded.
Leafs did it with Point. Should have done it to Tkachuk. - GalacticStone
Just play good, clean, physical hockey. If you purposely go out of your way to injure the opposing teams best player, your team actually deserves the exact same treatment times 2! |

Yet here you are whining and complaining.
Moving out one of the core 4 for a different look, if the right trade were available, is not whining, or a grass is greener scenario.
Its been 7 years, its fine to want a different look. - Fakepartofme
Oh so nobody dare to counter the POV of the "realists" only they can whine and complain about the leafs AND anyone who has a differning POV? Gotcha'
Maybe you didn't see the humour in my reply but it was tit for tat based on what was posted in reply to anyone who dare to have a differning POV.
Hey I get it, some want to keep up the daily whining on here going but news flash - anyone who chooses to call it out as tiresome, BS or just plain wrong in their opinion will do so and you can't stop it.
Yes, just like nobody can stop anyone else from whining daily, but people can't make snide and snarky, smart ass and insulting remarks about others opinions and not expect it back - that how the real world works.
Oh there it is "It's been 7 years" - I was waiting for one of you to chant your Mantra well played you got me!
And I (and many others) are not even opposed to making changes including to the core but yes, some people are on here with the grass is greener comparisons to other teams pretty consistently. Tampa, Florida and now this week it's Vegas.....some of us are just tired of it is all. |

Good luck
I wouldn't mind having Alex Nylander in the org.
But obviously only for a prospect way down the depth chart. |

He is a good GM but he is being put on a team that needs a rebuild but won't do it.
Would love a Leafs Pens 1st round next year though. - Santo_44

That it right there.

This is just it. After all these years we have holes all over the lineup. It's band aid city. What legit contender brings in six pieces to their lineup at the trade deadline?? |

I honestly felt like had Dubas stayed on as GM, he was going to make a significant change....either coach or core player (for the right deal)...or maybe both.
But we'll never know. |

Treliving is about to do the same so are you sure it was all Dubas who had this plan?
Seems more likely this is a Shanahan thing.

Im fine with the goaltending depending on cap (Woll and Sammy with a 3rd NHL experienced goalie not named Murray).
I miss Muzzin, but hoping the Tree finds a replacement and adjust the backend.
I liked having ROR and Acciari.....not sure if ROR will be back but I think Acciari will be. We'll also have a healthy Knies and maybe 2nd line center if JT gets moved over.
I still think the pieces that were brought in at the deadline were great. They all had impacts in the first round....I think Acciari still led all players in hits well into the 3rd round...which he never made.
I thought it was Dubas' best deadline. |

Maybe a heavier and different look on the back end along with more scoring up front helps out the core?

Stop writing novels openly criticizing other posters or you’ll find your posts getting deleted often moving forward.

I think it was, but I also think it's too much adjustment. The coach has a fluid possession style of play which literally uses guys like Engvall's and Sandin's puck skills - and then moves those pieces out for more muscle and toughness (which I agree with), but less possession. Now they have to adapt to that change in philosophy and adjust positioning accordingly and so on. It's a lot to do in a quarter of a season.
Teams that make that many changes in the offseason often have a slow start to the season while they adjust.
I sort of felt that while I liked McCabe more than most (and I do think he's a second pairing guy who needs the right partner), he struggled to find his comfortable place in Keefe's system. I think Schenn adjusted the best because he's mature enough and has simplified his game enough to know how to play off of an offensive roamer like Rielly. Acciari was fine, Lafferty was usually fine, but again role-wise it's a different type of thing than Keefe's normal structure and deployment.

It was a lot of change and adjustments for sure and keefes constant blender may not have helped. I know he had to see what worked and what didnt but thought maybe the last 4 games things would settle down.
Honestly, after the leafs lost, the biggest change i was expecting and was really open to was a change in coach.
But then other things unfolded, so we'll see what occurs |
