Rumour is that Garland divides the locker room.
Half of the team keeps putting his gloves and tape on the top shelf of his stall and then they all laugh at him trying to jump up to grab it...or try climbing up the side of the stall and then falling. The other half of the guys think it's too cruel and are just tired of watching him get all angry, storm out of the room and return with a little step ladder to reach the top shelf. It's been going on for some time and the two sides just don't see eye to eye (and obviously neither does Garland...more like eye to belly button).

This is a comedic offer. You think the Hawks would take on >$11m in AAV, saving the Canucks from their cap troubles, for two mid-round picks?
The Hawks got Tyler Johnson, a similar player with similar term as well as a 2nd round pick just for taking the contract off Tampa’s hands. The Canucks have no leverage.
11 and Garland for 19, 55, and a future mid-round pick is on-par for equal value. - TommyHawk
While the Canucks probably need to provide a bit more value, Garland is still in his prime and TJ was in the midst of major injuries and decline. Myers you can retain half on and flip for a 2nd rounder this year.
The Hawks should be trading for Miller though.

Florida should be trading Barkov for someone with playoff ballz, someone like JT Miller. |

So Alex DeBrincat who had 66 points in 81 games and was a -31 has a lot of value with a supposed long term contract coming in the 8s but Garland who had 46 points in 81 games and was a -5 at 5M essentially is a bad contract and needs an asset attached to move.
Makes sense - manvanfan
Does Garland have a 30 and 40 goal season I don’t know about?! |

Chicago Blackhawks: Seth Jones Trade
This is a complicated one because Seth Jones does have some value. He is not a bad player and is not going to totally sink the team through poor play.
But Chicago timed this poorly and gave up more value than they were getting back in both the trade and contract.
When the Blackhawks added Jones, it was clear the team was headed toward a rebuild. They were not just one player away from contending.
They ended up giving up a promising young player in Adam Boqvist and two top-12 picks (Columbus selected Cole Sillinger and David Jiricek) for Jones and a No. 30 overall pick while also signing Jones to a $9 million per year contract.
It is just a terrible misuse of assets for a player who, while good and valuable, is not going to move the needle on a rebuild. Boqvist and the two top-12 picks would have had more value long-term.
That contract also impacted their ability to re-sign Alex DeBrincat, which could have played a role in giving him away to the Ottawa Senators at the NHL draft this year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes a guy feel good that there are other teams who employ people who make ridiculously stupid mistakes like Jim Benning. The Hawks essentially gave up Boqvist, Sillinger and David Jiricek to get Seth Jones and then go into a rebuild. - DraftandDestroy
Jiricek is the only player coming back in that trade, not that bad except the contract. |

Dream big! I don’t think Zito is that stupid though, seems like a pretty smart GM. |

Does this make sense from a Winnipeg standpoint, why would they do this? I've not heard them trying to move out Dillon. Who replaces what he brings in that big physical dman who can chip in offensively for them? They don't have anyone in their system who can replace that.
I've read they want to move out a bunch of forwards but not dmen. Should be interesting to see the returns if they trade Scheifele, Dubois and Wheeler. They'll get a boat-load for those guys and they've said they're not interested in a rebuild. |

I know we as a group don't put a lot of time into the blog, regarding just reading it, but at least her blogs were well thought out, professional, and they were a talking point for discussion. I mean, whatever, no skin off my tail, he gave us a new blog before we were kicked off the main page...so thank him for that, I guess. |

I still read Carol's work. It's clearly way more refreshing than the daily hyperbole you post in here.

Sure does. Debrincat is younger with with 2x40 goal seasons and potential to recapture that ... and Ottawa isn't dealing from a place of weakness where they're strapped. Sure it's obvious he wants to go somewhere else (in the US), but that's all too common nowadays to be much of an issue. One can argue the tick down in his performance was due to unhappiness making it all the more intriguing to bring him to a place he wants to go.
I say this already stating I like Garland, but he has pretty much established what he will be and it isn't a 40 goal scorer. Too often folks look at Canucks prospects/players with rose coloured glasses. Maybe if we found a Jim Benning to trade with, but that's the only way to get the value canuck fans think our assets have. |
