It’s just truly sad, they gave up the 9th overall pick for a guy they are now gonna give 20 million dollars to go away. Francesco Aquilini gets what he deserves.

So a key part of this deal would be having some young players ready to contribute a year. from now and beyond.

Yesterday you said I have daily hate towards PA. This is a huge move and I give him plenty of credit.

Benning's in the rear view. If anyone wants to argue he wasn't an awful GM then good for them. He was, despite his best draft picks.

2025-26 and 2026-27 need some consideration bat after that his buyout dollars should be 2% of the cap or less.

I mean the first part of correcting a mistake is recognizing it. Good on FA for financing it. Many owners wouldn't.

I’m surprised he agreed to it but it needed to be done even if it’s short term gain. Hopefully the cap goes up enough to off-set the hit in three and four years.

I liked the trade when it happened but I quickly seen how far OEL had fallen. You have to fix it. It was crazy not to take this year of a 7 mil cap break.

Nighthawk suggested next year but then you are paying him 7 mil to save 2 mil in year 8.

The key is having entry level contracts ready to step in. The other issue is his cap hit increases to nearly $5M when Kuzmenko's deal expires.

This could be has Kuzmenko's last deal in Vancouver.

An OEL #Canucks buyout carries a cap hit of:
Year 1: 147K (7.1M savings)
Year 2: 2.35M (4.9M savings)
Year 3 & 4: 4.77M (2.5M savings)
Year 5-8: 2.13M cap hit & cost

#Yotes  will also carry a small cap hit for 8 years.

When I looked into it it was either now or in 2 years, the one in between only made sense if you figured you could salvage him.

This will go down as one of the worst trades in NHL history I think.

Breaking: #Yotes lose one of their 3 retained salary (RS) slots for the next 8 years.

We recently learned that a buyout on a RS contract results in the original team losing a RS slot for the whole buyout duration

We've already updated the site to reflect that new understanding!

There are a lot of bad trades made, so the list is long but I feel that OEL deal be on the top 100 for awhile.
