I disagree. Signing a guy for nothing is different than trading for him. You're comparing costing assets plus contract to just contract.
If you sign him yourself, you negotiate your own terms as well. Length of contract, no-trade clauses, ete. Currently in a trade you'd be asking someone to inherit a couple extra years he probably shouldn't have gotten.
Maybe with such a week FA class he gets as much per year. Hell maybe he even gets 8.5 or 9, but more likely at 5 years. - Sayros
Absolutely incorrect. He would be the best UFA on the market by a mile and would absolutely get his 7 years |

Absolutely!! In his four years with the Canucks he’s played 283 games scoring 299 points while being +12, believe it or not. There’s probably less than 50 guys out of 750 NHL players that have that many points in that many games over that same timeframe. Just me guessing. He was getting paid max term and money by someone. |

OK let's assume that's true. You're still comparing giving up no assets to get him to giving up assets to the Canucks to get him. The difference in free agent class or the contract doesn't make up for that.
Plus he's 30 now, and in my opinion he's also lost a step even since he signed. Now you're talking about signing him till 37. |

No, I’m agreeing with you, someone was giving him max term for sure. Canucks or someone else. |

I just think the contract he currently has with Vancouver has a better chance to age like Loui Eriksson than 26-30 year old JT Miller.
I make no bones about my dislike for him. He's a selfish player that doesn't make players around him better. He's gotten his points the last few years because he is talented and has more talent than most on the team so gets all the opportunity to do so. But points alone don't speak for all the giveaways and poopy play ending passes he makes. It's home run or strikeout with him. Worse yet, going the other way for a goal against (often shorthanded).

Not very much no. Not enough to make a dent in all the gaps this team has. I was arguing against the fact that signing him was good asset management because you think he'd get more this year as an FA. If we were a JT Miller away at the time from competing, I guess sure sign him deep into his thirties if you like him. But we weren't, not even close. The opportunity was blown coming off an inflated 99 pt season and a remaining year at good dollars. That would have allowed a team to try him out, see if he's a fit, see if he puts them over the top and then decide whether to re-sign him ... or even trade him retaining some value. In that situation he had great value.

Organizations don’t care about eight years down the road, as a general statement, there’s a ton of highend guys with contracts that won’t age well. This isn’t unique to the Canucks. Do you think Nathan MacKinnon will be worth 12 million a year at age 36?
I don’t know if that makes it right or wrong, I just know that’s what the current market is dictating for the players. So GM’s are paying it. I’m not a fan of his, I’m just saying someone was paying him max term and dollar for his production, Canucks or otherwise. |

I don’t like the guy either, but his assist stats say different. He’s not one dimensional like some of the Canuck players. He’s got good eyes, makes good offensive decisions, solid passer, and is a beast on the PP.
His defensive game and attitude is what I dislike about him. But to say he doesn’t make players around him better is a bit false. |

Evander Kane is a problem child and both time he got traded he brought back a first round pick. There’s definitely value out there in someone’s eyes for JT Miller!! |

The team isn’t rebuilding and Miller helps them win. And yes, we know he still has trade value. I understand you want a rebuild but it will never happen so I’m not sure what the point is continually discussing it |

Well agree to disagree there. I don't think he helps the team win. He helps himself get some points, that's about all I'll give him. There's more to the game than points and he's proven over and over he has great deficiencies that end up in us getting less goals than the other team.
Yeah I mean that's kind of what it comes down to. Arguing about doing the right thing which is to rebuild, but the trump card is they just won't.
I just thought you were saying they did a great thing by signing him to the contract he has because he might get a little more now. |

At some point LH decided to try his best to disrupt this page. So he’s been over the top with all this alt right BS. He had a recent rant about Trans folk and woke culture so I think one of the Mods had enough of it.
He’ll come back with such a hate on, it will be epic. Can’t wait to be honest. |
