Sekeres and Price

Are the #Canucks leaning towards taking Tom Willander or Nate Danielson in the #NHLDraft?

@DhaliwalSports: "I heard also the Canucks really like this C Nate Danielson...Bedard said Danielson was the hardest player to play against in the W."

Daniel Wagner

This is giving me fond memories of Cole Cassels “shutting down” Connor McDavid.

Also, for what it's worth:

Bedard's points per game in the WHL this season: 2.5

Bedard's points per game against Nate Danielson's Brandon Wheat Kings this season: 2.5
Wagner is clearly not endorsing that player very well

I’m guessing something else has been in the works & something gives before then. Basically saying the 1st isn’t in play or yet.

CBJ for a RHD?
NYI for Pageau for Garland?

Any other ideas or rumours out there that might have legs?

I like this move it tells me a lot about the SHL & his desire to improve. 👍

But if we are looking for players who are willing to play on a discount contract (like VHG said) you got to be an attractive destination. Has the approach of management and ownership created an attractive destination?

A guy like Byram is a BC boy. I don't think he cares what Schenn said.

I really think people that don't want to play here despite what Schenn said won't play here. Swedes will play here, so will the Russians, and so will BC boys.

Not Canucks fault Schenn's wife is pregnant at TDL on his contract year. Business decision.

I'm settling on Willander, Wood, Dvorsky, or Yager. Simashev or Leonard would be fine as well but I'm less on them over those 4.

Still think finding a reasonable trade down could net Van 2 very good prospects.

- manvanfan

Gotta agree with you on any of the above being possible picks & still believe the latter will be worked hard.

That would work, won't be cheap. Whoever they draft won't be contributing the next couple of years at best, if they want results it will be via trade. Woo, Juulsen, Burroughs aren't an upgrade to the D, they have to do something. Hopefully not the UFA route unless it's a short term team friendly deal (Schenn etc.)
- VanHockeyGuy

Byram 6.3m cost a 1st & 3rd if it were an OS just sayin. So yes in my mind he is easily worth those picks & if concussions are a concern of the past. Risky still. The contract is it’s own matter.

Brandon Carlo.

Nice D but imo somewhat overrated. Boston players have always seemed better there than when moved on. Pederson & LE?

Twice bitten so no just because…

Those parting shots by Schenn has me wondering if other end-of-career but still useful free agents will stay away from this team. Didn’t he say something about the Canucks not caring about family? That was a hell of a shot.
- bloatedmosquito

Taking the biz side of it it made sense. He wasn’t owed anything by the new regime on a team going nowhere. He was just bitter.

Agreed, has turned into a pretty steady #4 D.

Just freed up the OEL debacle and need to address the D & 3C. Short term UFA & hopefully a good hockey trade.

If potential players playing here listen to others instead of coming to be diffence makers then I say screw em. That is not a pro competitor or even close. If it’s a vet coming to retire on easy street for money screw em also. No passengers.

Yes but a #3 D is more needed. #1 or 2 ultimately but have to draft those or UFA type like Pesce next year.

Most pressing needs but has to be in conjunction with a cap strategy. I’m assuming behind close doors there has been plenty of cap allocation discussion for short & long term. Projecting cap increases is surely involved. This offseason all moves will paint us a vivid picture on how it plays out.

Canucks salary structure has improved but dead cap is the price.

Value signings has to be top priority whether our RFA’s or any UFA’s. Still need to move out a winger or 2 for both cap reasons & fill needs to balance out the roster structure. The PK is my biggest priority being a 3C & 1-2 D being the objectives. Scoring is there. More speed & size we all want. Acciari? D is who?

Canucks will draft Danielson if they keep the pick and there would be your fix on 3C . Bring in Bjujdstadt for 2 years as he develops.

Nighthawk may be onto something with Byram but it will be a trade not an OS. Hirose will make the team. Still need to figure out the RHD trade, I guess it could be a UFA signing.

They took out Willander, Barlow, Benson and Wood as well. I'd take all those over Danielson. Benson will be gone absolutely though.

I don’t know how much value to place in it but Wallinder, Benson, Barlow and danielson were who they interviewed at the combine.

Sign Bear we can't let an asset walk

- VANTEL

Agreed! One year deal and flip him at the TDL, D can’t be fixed in one year.
