Well get ready then. Michkov may fall out of the top 10 and they will jump on that selection. Then they can borrow all Benning's lines about drafting a top 5 pick in Podkolzin.

Man it would have been nice to get in the top 6 this year. All respect to Tocchet, conditioning and working harder ... I just don't see a path back to respectability (or playoffs) without a few years of high-end picks based on the current cupboards.

I'll play
Miller for Pesce
Garland for Hayes may need draft picks but I think they'd be thrilled to move hayes.
Sign Ryan Graves
Sign Nik Bjustad
Myers out after paying bonus to Chicago or Phoenix with the 1 mill real money but 6 mill cap hit for whatever
Kuz Petey Mikayev
Beau Hayes Boeser
Hoglander Bjustad Podkolzin
Dak Amen Studnicka
Obviously 2 Center is weak after moving Miller but the de is wayyyyyyy better. Cap room to boot. Maybe dangle the 11th overall for Hanifin but I don't think thats even close to enough. - Jkuzzi

Half the fanbase thinks they are a couple of pieces away from being a playoff team next season.

A kid they won’t see until 4 years perhaps never? Don’t see it. They don’t have that much time

Yeah I don't really understand. All the playoffs did was reinforce to me how far off the canucks are. At best we have a couple guys that can compete at that level. The rest would get run out of the rink.

To be fair, making the playoffs and being a good playoff team are 2 different things. I can see a world where the Canucks are on the level Winnipeg/Minnesota were this year.

I can't see that happening, that would be an enormous drop for someone of his talent level, he's the 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft.
If he did though, Van should be running to the podium to take him

I don't like some of the entitled behavior of some Russian players, Tryamkin etc. Michkov seems to have that attitude, I'd pass. - VanHockeyGuy
I find it strange that he is off partying overseas shortly after his dad was murdered. Also, he declined to speak with NHL teams. Kid is littered with red flags

Honestly, were Florida really that good? I thought Carlonia outplayed them in pretty much all 4 games and got beat by a hot goalie. Demko could pull a Bobrovsky. It's about catching heat at the right time. Beyond just lasting the regular season, our biggest issue is adequate depth to survive a scenario in either regular season or playoffs where the injuries start or we lose a star player. Demko's poor start and then injury (frank)ed the entire season.

Bob Mackenzie said today that he's scheduled for multiple interviews with NHL teams, where are you getting that info?

For anyone who missed the 32 Thoughts bit about Van.

I ;pve how they go on to discuss OEL like he's a real player. He might bounce back, but even on the cheap it's a gamble. He was a total anchor last year.

I think we can comfortably say that Florida was the worse team in more than 50% of their playoff games this year. Easy to forget Vancouver was 1 PP goal away from the 3rd round in 2020 completely on the back of Demko, if they hope to go on a run, he's clearly going to be the most important part of that.
Agreed that depth is the main issue, the SCF was a prime example of what happens when a top heavy, hot goalie riding team comes up against a strong, well built team from top to bottom. Building defensive depth has to be a priority over the next couple of years, or the Canucks won't go anywhere.

Vancouver's a small soft team with a terrible defence and no depth. There's no way they get anywhere close to what Florida did the way they look today.

Bottom pair for 1-2 mil I think a few teams would definitely want him, he can fill in on a PP in case of injury.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 3-4 mil from someone on reputation alone though

Fair enough. I don't think Florida was that good. They had a hot goalie. But they do have high-end players. They have solid D (including Gustav Forsling ).
I'm saying we're very far from playoffs even. Could Demko get hot, sure. But the last time he did, we had a way better team and we did mediocre. This team has one of (if not) the worst D-cores in the NHL, and a few million dollar cap savings from OEL isn't going to fix that.
