Karine Hains: In Hainsight: About the Crowded Blue Line As the offseason is a fairly quiet time, I decided to base my blogs on Twitter polls to spark some healthy conversation about the Montreal Canadiens.

Harris would never get the same return as Romanov. Romanov was used as mtl first defenseman when he got traded.

Agree he could be traded, even if I could see him having a long career as a top 4 D in this league.

As long as the trade make some sense and he is not traded for the sake of trading a left handed D. Some Ds could play on the right side as well.

I didnt say he would bring the same return simply that hughes is not shy of using young proven d as trade material

I know. I did not say you said it either.

Do you think he could be used with the 31st pick to move up in the draft?

I think it would be hard to justify trading Harris at this point. He was the Habs most consistent defender last year and with Kovacevic as his side, they were the best tandem the team has all season. I think someone like WiFi, although a fan favourite, might be easier to replace in the long tun.

I do not advocate trading either, though.

Edmundson is on his way out and by the time Lane Hutson is ready for the big show, Matheson's contract will be winding down (whether he stays beyond that, is TBD) and the "kids" will have 2-3-4 years under their belt. Other than maybe Struble, the rest of the bunch are not going to be close to Harris talent wise.

I get dealing from a position of strength, but you also do not want to trade a player you spend the next 5-6+ years trying to replace.

With OEL on the market, should Montreal go after him instead of trading assets for 100 point defenseman, Erik Karlsson?

You can have all LHDs, but you aren't allowed to have more than 3 RHDs

This was the era when Babcock was coaching TC 2014. He needed 3 RHDs and 3 LHDs. But back in Detroit he was consistently dress 5-6 LHDs
