The NFL draft picks are more valuable to the organizations yet the NHL treats draft picks like gold.
Those prospects are then held on a pedestal for years while the team hopes they've hit lightning in a bottle while residing in the lower end of the standings.
Vegas/Tampa have shown you don't need to approach the draft/trades the same once the core is in place.
The Sabres have their core and then some yet we are still here discussing what calculated trades/acquisitions can be made for minor improvements....and calling him a top5 GM in the process.
Instituting an interior cap for the team show the owner is not committed to winning, Adams can continue to try as he has since he arrived to no avail.
Better put some gravy on that shoe. - washedup20
This is a misleading argument. I'm not going to start (frank)ing the "Build From Within" model some folks do, but if you're going to use those guys, contextualize it correctly.
Tampa most certainly built from the draft. Their best players are drafted.
Vegas were force fed good players just to take some junk from other teams, what a poop show. Then, they emptied their entire future when they realized they were already good enough to win with the veterans they were provided.
The most common winning recipe, outside of an expansion team, is you draft your best players then start making trades with playoff-grade picks. |

Anyone else find it odd that:
Drury
Brierie
Grier
All have become GM's and none of them were even considered for the Sabres front office during this 12 year disaster of ownership?
Vanek said he is getting calls and expects to join a front office in the NHL soon, the Sabres haven't even called him...what gives?

The Sabres have their core in place just like those team had when they got aggressive, what is misleading about my post?

Do the Rangers have any UFA's or RFA's that are interesting aside from Miller? - kingcong39
Yes, it's not just the Rangers, that approach should be held for all teams. |

Regarding the discussion before it, the implication that NHL draft picks are held in too high regard.
I see what you're saying and I actually agree with you on a Sabres standpoint. The draft picks are still important, but at this exact current stage, you're probably not scorch-earthing your pools like Tampa and Vegas did.
You can absolutely use one or even two of your high end kids for a real impact guy. I'd support it.

Not that odd. Honestly. It’s early for Brier, but show me that any of them have done anything to build a team. I’m over past Sabres getting the job. Get the best person for the role.

Trick question- they're both Thomas Greiss
Not really. That's Malcolm Subban and UPL |

Drury and Briere were off limits. Drury was being held during the Botterill hire and Briere was unseasoned.

They'll tell you they're all too interesting to trade for less than infinite.

When you're too excited to reply and dunk on someone and you do so before reading an entire post thoroughly, and you end up dunking on yourself 🤡🤡🤡 - kingcong39
In my defense you do have a Weegar chart in that post but I can dunk on myself harder than I can dunk on anyone |

I'd say lance knows more then most of our "insiders".
It's kinda his job.
I'm really curious about the goalie situation.
My "insider" says levi is the 100% undisputed starter next season.
That's what the franchise is going to do.....
They love him and came to some agreement beyond playing 7 of the last 9 games last season.
As for upl, feels like they still like him. Although he could be traded for a 1B type vet imo.
Sabres just like to see these young guys develop. - Boss34
Yeah so we can trade them in their prime for a player we can develop and trade in his prime, preferably to a Stanley Cup favorite. |

Average sv% was also .874 in 1985 and .881 in 1990
Both were already above average

I hate offersheets. I mean I love them but I hate talking about them, but Kotkaniemi gives me hope.
Offer Miller the 6.4M contract for one year, extend him 4.8x7, costs a 2024 1st and 3rd. I think he's worth a bit more to the Rangers than a playoff (!!) 1st and 3rd. - TheSabresTaco
Wasn't Kotkaniemi the revenge for an offer sheet? That's what stops them.

Sure. Montreal had all the opportunity in the world to decline the picks.

But it probably never happens at all if they don't OS Aho, who is now inconveniently in his final year of the deal.

The chart was a comparison between Weegar and Dillon, as most already know Weegar is good.

Didn't Drury decline to even interview with us? But yeah, I agree - I don't need former Sabres running the ship.

Haven't seen his name mentioned, and I have no idea what plans Winnipeg has for next season, but how about this guy as a trade target?
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brenden-dillon
- kingcong39
I like Dillon, even as a temporary option. Idk what the plan is in winnipeg. They're gunna lose Hellebuyck and Dubois, but insist on not rebuilding.
Make me wonder if they hold on to these other pending ufa's and try for a run to 8th (9th) place. |

That's interesting. 👍
Peterka's bowling ball build and effort make me feel like he could slide down the lineup to a conventional 4th line. An actual hybrid 4th line.
Adds more leadership, replaces girgensons.
12 - krebs - peterka as a 4th line .....
Or a 3B line.... - Boss34
Peterka is gonna be in Chicago for Connor Murphy |
