I don't know why you insist on bringing franchise values and expansion fees into player salary discussions. You love to muddy the waters just to say how much you think something stinks.

The players got their full salaries during the pandemic even though revenues were way, way down. Nobody cried poor. It seems as though the owners and the players worked together to keep it as fair as possible. Isn't that how it is supposed to work?

I would probably take that deal

It has to do with the escrow that the players owed to the owners due to the lost games/gate revenue during the pandemic. I'm way too dumb to understand the intricacies of that but it seems like the owners have weaponized that agreement to stagnate the cap and keep salaries low

What I mean is that the minimum salary in the NHL was $650k in 2017 and it's $750 in 2023. Inflation adjusted $650k would be a little over $800k today

So salaries are definitely lagging behind inflation. Players are actually getting paid less than they were 6 years ago
