I'm a BPA guy. But I'm also working with 36 and Ion on a mock draft. So there's going to be personal bias involved here, especially with how weak our defensive system is.
If you gave me a list of 12 players to be taken ahead of the Sabres, and told me what do you think Kevyn is going to do here, I would absolutely consider as many factors as possible, some of those being the shallowness of the defensive pool and the absolute logjam of young top 6 forwards organizationally.
Tom Willander is every bit the prospect that many of those forwards in the teens range are.
Being 'forward heavy' or 'defense heavy' draft is a nonsense argument. - TheSabresTaco

At what point as an organization do you take BPA at a position of need rather than the ranking high end forward? - washedup20
Accept that Kevyn will always take BPA. If the D is just as good as F in the position of their draft, I'd hope he considers the D.
The good news is that we've got some nice depth in the system already, think Novikov and Johnson are sure fire 4-6.

I got two minutes into the mock offseason by DBTB before having to turn it off. Just completely ruined trying to do ridiculous voices. I don’t get it - sbroads24
it's a little goofy but some of the ideas are interesting.
Keller and Vejmelka for Mitts, Rosen and a 1st is kinda neat.
Is this an overpay by Buffalo?

Here is my take on ur goalie situation.
I have not liked UPL just like Mittle-fat over the years. However I don't think I am ready to give up on UPL yet.
If the Sabres are not willing to get a Vet goaltender, I am fine with it if they in turn get there hands on a Top 4 D, maybe another stay at home D and a power forward with grit and talent like Tom Wilson and for me better yet Tyler Bertuzzi.
would you trade, a 2nd, Olofsson, Bryson and one of our prosepcts even if it savioe for Tom Wilson and john Carlson and Washington retains 3 million on Carlson?

There's gonna be good players available at 13, really depends on which way Adams wants to go. |

Yes! I hear 5 mill range give or take. |

Let's say high end forwards project to play top 9 in the NHL, for the Sabres, the NHL core that is signed or will be signed long term:
Skinner
Tuch
Tage
Peterka
Cozens
Quinn
Mitts (?)
Krebs (?)
That leaves 1 maybe 3 open slots...already in the system:
Kulich
Savoie
Ostlund
Rosen
The Sabres dcore:
Dahlin
Power
Samuelsson
(?)
?
?
?
In the system:
Johnson
Novikov
Komarov
Depth forwards signed long term:
0
In the system:
Rousek
Kozak
Nadeau
Goalies:
Levi
UPL (?)
In the system:
0

Your needs can change quite a bit in 3 years no ??
Willander probably has 1-2 years at Boston College and another year in Roch.
You have Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson already signed long term, Johnson is just about NHL ready, and Joker for the time being is still here.
I’m not saying to not add to your pipeline in rounds 2-7, but I’m not franking around with the 13th overall pick in the draft |

Adams wanted to tie up all loose ends contracts wise before free agency started
Power and Dahlin included. (I know that obvious)
Then he can figure out what money is left and where to go
Adams has a plan…… yes a Sabres gm has a plan |

In theory, I understand your position.
The positive slingshot effect that results from picking a player that fills a void and is ready to play in 1/2 seasons is astronomically more valuable than the typical draft BPA and wait for them to develop and fill a role.
Pros:
Example:
https://www.nhl.com/news/...-at-nhl-draft/c-307976566
The cons to this are when teams pick a player higher than expected but they don't fill the void in the existing roster causing development issues:

Looks like the plan, basically have his core locked and will have a really good knowledge of what his Cap will be in 2yrs. |

Sabres aren't trading Kulich and Savoie. Caps aren't trading Carlson. Caps don't need our garbage, they already have Mantha. That 2nd round pick doesn't help them compete in their waning years of Ovi.

OK anyone else is fine... Getting Tom Wilson and John Carlson would be great for the Sabres and would help in so many ways.

Any proposal for those 2 players at this time has to outweigh the existing opportunity to support Ovie passing Gretzky.

I personally believe the same could be said for Kulich, but I don't know that. What's your feel?

Carlson isn't the greatest at Defense, don't think he would be a good partner for Power. Rather trade for Jensen |

Not unless the offer is way to good to pass up. |
