Not all 13/14 OAs not created equal.
Plus Kev outright came out and said they want the best projected player, not best today player - TheSabresTaco

He talks about sustained success. That is the goal. Not to mortgage the future to win a lot of games for a year. - DirtyDan
There is no in between.
It’s either you have to mortgage everything or stand Pat.
I don’t understand how other teams operate with such extremes. |

Let's say high end forwards project to play top 9 in the NHL, for the Sabres, the NHL core that is signed or will be signed long term:
Skinner
Tuch
Tage
Peterka
Cozens
Quinn
Mitts (?)
Krebs (?)
That leaves 1 maybe 3 open slots...already in the system:
Kulich
Savoie
Ostlund
Rosen
The Sabres dcore:
Dahlin
Power
Samuelsson
(?)
?
?
?
In the system:
Johnson
Novikov
Komarov
Depth forwards signed long term:
0
In the system:
Rousek
Kozak
Nadeau
Goalies:
Levi
UPL (?)
In the system:
0
At what point as an organization do you take BPA at a position of need rather than the ranking high end forward? - washedup20
Exactly right IMO
Check Jan Levine's Mock Draft Post later tonight.
Before debating too hard, consider the Draft & Develop model the current FO has settled on. |

If they trade the pick for a solid player. Wherther it be F or D. Cool. Im with management, whatever they think is best.
If it was me, I want to trade up (If Michkov is to fall). Use Whatever means necessary. - DirtyDan
I really think they make the Sabres make the pick at 13.
Maybe send off olofsson for another pick, if the player they like is on the board.
Just because we have a very cohesive front office and they've been hitting on many top picks recently.
Agreed though, if they move the pick for a quality player , goalie, forward or defenseman. Hard to fault management. |

We should be making the pick.
We have two seconds, VO, Rosen, Joker, maybe mitts to move for a top 4 RHD. No need to trade the 1st or reach for a D at 13 if we do make that pick.
I'm warming up to UPL and Levi as our goalies if we get a legit top 4 RHD. |

I don’t understand the trade Mitts but keep the first.
The 13th pick you hope can turn into Mitts.
Trade the unproven over the proven every time.
Plus pick 13 value I’d guess outweighs Mitts value because of teams and GMs obsession with mid to late 1st rd picks.

Chuck Fletcher says Tim Murray offered all 3 of those crappy 2nd round picks for 18OA to draft Alex Tuch.
What he should have done is traded 2015 2OA and 2023 77OA for 2014 18OA, 2019 17OA, 2022 16OA and 2023 64OA
1st and a 3rd for 3 1sts and a 3rd which became a 2nd in 2021? What a deal. |

If not trading a 1 this year. I’m very much making 24 1st + Rosen or some piece available for a d-man with term. |

I'd be fine trading a 2026 2nd Bryson and Olofsson for someone like William Nylander |
