I agree with the notion the rest of the lines are terrible defensively.
Strong against who and when?
They failed at the PK, who is playing on that next season? - washedup20
5v5 is much more a reason to keep a guy than a PK impact. That's more of a systematic change than solely on a player, but I could listen to an argument. Things like defensive and PK impacts fluctuate pretty wildly from season to season. New coaches, new personnel (using different guys, not necessarily newly signed players), new systematic changes can all make an impact. |

The coaches didn't change, its a safe assumption the system will not change...the Sabres overpaid for a 4th line that can cycle the puck but provides little if any real energy to the lineup and can't play PK...you can share individual stats all day but the team record is the measuring stick for depth players.

Like I said. Once Kyle had decided he wanted to play, he was coming back. There was no reason to delay, it was inevitable.
As for ZG, he came back for much of the same reasons, I think he wanted to see if he could get term and likely realized he wouldn't. So he said (frank) it might as well go back to Buffalo. - TheSabresTaco
Again that's fine they both had a open invitation. Also means I could see 1 know. If there was no other places to go or they would go Adams could waited and seen what's out there and signed one at a later time. |

Risk it for a D that can jump into the lineup in 1/2 seasons or trade it.

Think he said we were gonna really like the TD acquisition that turned out to only be Greenway. |

Here's an idea.
Jakob Silfverberg (50% retained) for Victor Olofsson and a 5th round pick.
Value wise they're similar, Anaheim gets a younger scoring forward, holds onto some celery to help them get to the floor, Sabres get a defensive forward to assist in team defense.
Both on one year deals, can get rid of or keep to potentially make room for prospects. - TheSabresTaco
I like it for us but not for them. I don't like it for them because they are years away from competing and doesn't fit their timeline.

You can not like it, but I don't think the word "overpaid" here is really necessary. Sure, we could have gotten someone else cheaper. We are going to be several millions of dollars under the cap - I can't get worked up over paying either one of them a few hundred thousand more than they should have gotten for one year.

I think his mistake was (seemingly) implying that something was on the verge of happening. Part of me is thinking that he is just jerking with us at this point, possibly because of some of the comments made about the family. |

Girgs and Okposo make the same as Mitts, what in the world are you talking about? they are sub $1mm players.

One year deals for each were projected to be in the $1.2M range.
Is it Adams trying to be a nice guy and player friendly? |

Yeah, that was chicken - man that I was thinking.
Greenway though. He did say there was a bigger plan with him |

Man looking around at the landscape of some Teams and the Cap situations. Gonna be some buy low candidate's out there. With contracts signed doesn't look like Adams is delving into those opportunities unless he moves a player or 2. - Buff36
I think this is part of the reasoning in resigning SirFallsAlot...or atleast I hope so. |

That would be funny if he was. He's been on the ball before over the years, I just take it with a grain of salt and chalk it up to situations being ever changing. |

Added cost to repairing the damaged brand from incompetent ownership.
They would be easier signings to understand if Adams waited till FA and shopped around, to me these signing indicate that Adams doesn't think the roster is ready to compete along with not wanting to risk getting turned down in free agency.

Seems Greenway is gonna be with Krebs and Mitts/Peterka to start the year so if he's gonna be something we'll find out early-ish in the season. |

We have the cap space …. And it’s 1 year. Not a big deal at all |

you're kidding, right? This is really how your mind works?
Did he overpay them a bit? Sure. But these are respected vets and not Zenon Knopka. I would have brought back only Okposo. It wouldn't surprise me if Girgs is moved at the deadline. Either way, give our cap situation and term, it isn't worth getting upset over.
