Again that's fine they both had a open invitation. Also means I could see 1 know. If there was no other places to go or they would go Adams could waited and seen what's out there and signed one at a later time. - Buff36
Yes he could have I guess, but they clearly valued what they had vs what is available in free agency in that role. |

this was pretty thoroughly explained. some don't really want to hear it, but he's viewed as a vital piece to that team. defensively he does his job (with ZG) and he's their leader. some will disagree, but that's why he came back. He had an open invitation and once he decided to play, they'd offer him a year by year contract.
And I can personally tell you it was Buffalo or nothing. - TheSabresTaco
He was like watching the skating-dead at the end of last season.
This MUST be the last for he and SirFallsAlot, they ARE IMO blocking young players.
Wait until they re-sign Jost and trot back the same roster. |

Strike 3? Missed on chicken - man and who else? - Sabretooth9
I'll let him have that one because the Sabres outwardly came out and said they tried pretty hard to land him. Arizona demanded more from Buffalo than they did from Ottawa, likely because Chychrun has family there. |

They are also quite possibly overly comfortable with going with who they know and pwwtbh. |

Quick Matvei Michkov update: He arrives in the U.S. in the next day or so and will be in Nashville by early next week.
His agent Max Moliver has scheduled interviews with multiple clubs, looking to accommodate as many as possible, within reason of course (those teams with picks in Top 10 or so, for example).

I haven't seen a sound argument as to who they're actually blocking.
There's not a single player in this org that plays their role, to their affect.
Not Malone. Not (frank)ing Murray. Not Rousek. Not Kyle Criscuolo. Not even Marek Zagrapan. |

It's a factor. I know people just want new blood. That's fine. Like it or not, the org loves them, they love the org, and they provide a specific value. |

I'd have Rousek playing over Girgs any day of the week. Rousek has a real shot of being part of the long-term solution - might as well get him experience. Kozak as well.
Also, I don't ever want to see Jost sitting upstairs and Girgs playing. |

I mean the fact that we played glorified pond hockey and the Krebs, Girgensons, Okposo line was one of, if not the best, shut down line in hockey last year says it all no ?
All the hate Girgs and Okposo gets needs to be directed to Olofsson making the 3rd line a black hole and by virtue making it a “4th line” in terms of TOI.
Fix the third line, and we’ll see how many people start to love the Larry’s |

You can not like it, but I don't think the word "overpaid" here is really necessary. Sure, we could have gotten someone else cheaper. We are going to be several millions of dollars under the cap - I can't get worked up over paying either one of them a few hundred thousand more than they should have gotten for one year. - Slump Buster
I couldn't care any less about the money each is paid on a 1 Year deal this season.
I do care about winning, and those guys move the needle about as much as a slug. So, I'll relax this season IF Adams gradually phases each one out, and has started the transition plan of leadership to Dahlin, Tuch and Cozens. They cannot be brought back for next season. It is time to get Kulich, Rousek, maybe even Rosen into the lineup on a full time basis by years-end.

One year deals for each were projected to be in the $1.2M range.
Is it Adams trying to be a nice guy and player friendly? - kingcong39
There's value he paid for off ice/ intangibles those two bring.

you're kidding, right? This is really how your mind works?
Did he overpay them a bit? Sure. But these are respected vets and not Zenon Knopka. I would have brought back only Okposo. It wouldn't surprise me if Girgs is moved at the deadline. Either way, give our cap situation and term, it isn't worth getting upset over. - Slump Buster
I don't even know what you're saying here, none of your statements defending either player involve value add to the Sabres on ice play.
Overpaying almost $3mm for locker room vibes is dumb, it raises questions on the current cores ability to lead as well.

Been overpaying them both for a long time. It would be mean to suddenly stop.

Rousek does not play the game like Girgensons does. He is not an ample replacement. They can look at swapping Rousek for Olofsson though. |

I was questioning your asinine statement that Adam signed them because he is too worried that UFA 4th liners won't want to play here. It's the freaking 4th line and people have their panties in a jumble that we give a little bit of money to two respected vets. As others have said, they value their leadership. It is not at all uncommon to pay respected vets a little bit more than one would like near the end of their careers.
And no, it is not in any way an indictment of the rest of the roster's ability to lead. Does everything have to be an indicator of something bigger? |

Well, sure, they are different players. I would argue that he brings other things to the table, and he is apparently an excellent on the PK.

See, that is the thing. It takes time to develop, and that time should be when the team is developing together, not when the timeline says they should be competing hard for the Playoffs and success therein. Donnie has shown an incredible level of success in developing the younger talent, why not start it now? Rousek is ready for one of those roles, he is now blocked out. Jost has a poor Face-off win rate and has for years...why not let Rousek play that Role and learn? |

Rousek isn't going to take their spots day 1 on the roster. You shelter and develop him playing that kind of role part time, if they see him as that kind of player. Put him against the weaker pp unit. Put him in defensive draws. Let's see how he does. |
