Rousek isn't going to take their spots day 1 on the roster. You shelter and develop him playing that kind of role part time, if they see him as that kind of player. Put him against the weaker pp unit. Put him in defensive draws. Let's see how he does.

I think the bigger point is still valid. Part of what Meatballs did right when he took over was to do very little sheltering of the kids. I don't see why he would need to shelter a 24 year old kid who is ready for his chance. And if it doesn't work out, just go out and get another Jost.

I was questioning your asinine statement that Adam signed them because he is too worried that UFA 4th liners won't want to play here. It's the freaking 4th line and people have their panties in a jumble that we give a little bit of money to two respected vets. As others have said, they value their leadership. It is not at all uncommon to pay respected vets a little bit more than one would like near the end of their careers.

And no, it is not in any way an indictment of the rest of the roster's ability to lead. Does everything have to be an indicator of something bigger?

We'll see how the rest of the offseason goes...meaning players traded out to create additional spaces, but if they bring Jost back, that puts them at 23 roster players I believe. Without those moves, there really isn't room.

- the 5th worst PK in the league
- 8th worst goals against
- 7th worst in shots against

I don't see the correlation between those 2 players individual defensive stats translating into team effectiveness.
