At least Minnesota had a system. Im not sure what they expect him to be able to be here. Don says hes got a lot left to show. He was never a goal scorer. Just over a hit a game. I guess he can PK fine. I just feel they're expecting way to much of a guy that never really looks interested IMO.

For being 6'6 he looks small in his interviews. He needs to hit the gym.

Waste of a 2nd trying to fix an ex-player of don's.

The guy needs to play bigger...for being hurt, he was just ok....yet, he did pop in 4 goals in 17 games.
That production translates to 19 - 20 G's. I'd take that all day long, yet I realize he has never hit that level before, so I'll take 15/15/30 while being effective in all 3 zones. One can hope.

Who on the Sabres can show him how to take on that role?

Not sure what you mean by Minny's system - are you implying that we don't have one? Um, ok. Minny plays a VERY defensive system. While he didn't have good numbers there he was part of an extremely successful line before being moved.

They all look small in interviews because few of them are built like linebackers. I think it was a decent gamble. You know who else never scored anywhere? Tallness, and lots of other guys that went to college. He wasn't too far off from being a PPG at Boston U.

- Slump Buster

Tallness scored 14 his first year second the team.. 19 the next, first on the team. He was a literal goal scorer. Took till year 3 for Greenway to get over 10. They are not the same.

He shot at a 13% clip. That wont happen again.

But I am with you. 1 can hope. And hope we must or else hes a total waste in the top 9.

I guess we could Shove Girgs at Centre and have him join the 4th line that way. Not ideal for faceoffs though.

And this impressed you? After college, he also didn't sniff 10 goals for several years.

The bigger point is that you can't always go by how much they scored earlier. Greenway doesn't have Tage's shot but he does have value. I also prefer guys that have done it somewhere else but it is less important for bottom 6 guys.

Regardless of goal totals the skill level between the two are worlds apart. Which was always part of my issue with not only the trade, but Granato desperately trying to fit him in the top 6.

If you want, you can make the point that trading for Greenway helped them miss the playoffs. He was absolutely terrible his first 7 games or so

I urge people to watch Greenway's breakaway one-handed goal late in the season. He has plenty more to offer offensively.

Minnesota played Larry hockey and wanted Greenway to be a big Larry. That's not his game, although he will finish top-3 in hits among forwards for the Sabres this year. He will be an actual 2-way forward

Just part of my point of how im not sure what Don expects this guy to be, he plays small for a big guy. Not a scorer. Didnt show any playmaking ability.

Hes Girgs in a bigger body. Being shoved into a top 9 role.

Wasn't that around the time that Tuch was hurt? An argument could be made that he didn't want to break up other lines (which he ended up doing later anyway).

Did anyone think that Tallness had that kind of skill before 2 years ago? The guy has skill, just not the freakish athleticism that Tage has. He may never be more than a 12 - 15 goal scorer in the league, but it wouldn't shock me if he was more than that.

Tuch could show him how to leverage his size and puck protection, good point.

His role should be a power forward...I believe Gerbe was implying Patches might get hired today to coach special teams:

Good post

I really think #12 had some untapped offensive qualities that donnie Hope's to unlatch here, with his system.

I could see 18-20 goals this season. Especially if he plays 3rd line minutes with mitts as center.
