Top 3 needs IMO ranked most to least but all needed before we start camp
1. Top 4 defensemen, solid stay at home guy
2. A goalie, If we roll with Levi and UPL, we are not a playoff team this year
3. One or two guys who can answer when our stars get targeted. We currently have no answer. Where was this response when Eichel was in Buffalo? Where is it now when Thompson, Cozens, Dahlin get hit?

In fairness, its far more likely that Cozens and Dahlin start something than the other way around. They can hold their own, its usually enough.
The response here isnt whats important, its Eichel's durability. Ditto Stone. Nothing Kolesar and company did stopped opposing teams from targeting stone's back. But he weathered all of that despite what I assume was an insane amount of pain.
That's really what you need, toughness to withstand, not necessarily to respond. That's where being a bigger team can help as well, can just absorb more if it (in theory)

Aren't we in the year of our lord 2023? Didn't the age of the aircraft carriers playing on line 4 end years ago? Do we really need to get the likes of Nic Deslaurier back? In today's league, a team needs to collectively challenge whatever happened on the ice. That's it, and this team does that extremely well. And if it comes to it, there are guys that will drop the gloves. Why isn't that enough?

Carlson's never been a stay at home guy, and it just looks worse now that his 5v5 offense has gone with it. |

If Washington retains 35-50% it’s not an awful idea. He’d go from having to be a #1 to being a #3 and he’d fit the mold of experienced RD who wouldn’t kill offense like Jokiharju or Lyubushkin |

He wouldn't kill it no, but he'd provide as much (or little) defense as those guys. If they retain 50% theyre gunna want well above what hes worth. Im not sure how thats better than just tossing boston a pick for Grzelyck. |

Never been much of a MG fan. Also don’t think Boston would send him our way if it’s just for a pick and more than one team is interested. I know he’s not high profile but they probably don’t want to just hand him to a division rival.
I’m also kinda assuming that Carlson would be pretty cheap. With Sandin taking a big role presumably I’d assume they’d want to move on from Carlson and save 4-5 mil |

I think him being a household name there makes that tough. If he's coming cheap regardless thats definitely a conversation worth having. I dont think any team will offer more than say 2nd for Grzelcyk but it's possible they choose not to deal him to rival yeah. |

What you need to keep an eye on is how much of the salary cap will be going toward defensemen
Dahlin at 10
Samuelsson at 4
Power at 7
Sabres can’t add a 7-8 mill defensemen.
That would be way too much cap space dedicated to defense |

Yeah Washington in general are always tough to figure out. They obviously won’t go full rebuild with Ovechkin still there but they’ve made some re-tooling moves.
Wonder if Jokiharju + another minor piece for Carlson with 3 mil retained would be interesting to them?
Idk honestly I’d have absolutely 0 clue what Carlson’s trade value would be

Sure they can. Especially if guys at the bottom like Stillman and Johnson are making minimum.
We also have very little invested in the forwards and goalie position as of now (that will hopefully change)
I also don’t think they’d be adding a 7 mil D man.
I think Pesce will get around 5.5-6 per and Carlson would need at least 3-4 mil of his cap hit retained which would make him around 4-5 mil |

Yeah its exactly why its tough to tell, because we dont really know what the end game is for them. Such a unique situation. At this point, especially having already won, its probably more valuable for them to build a team strictly to get Ovi to Gretzky's record, than anything else. |

I can't get there. If his number was in the 5's he'd have already signed with the Canes. Its gotta be higher imo. |

Sabres have the benefit of having a young forward group , the way contracts are set for right know Buffalo could afford a bit more in there D group. |

Yeah- Carlson is probably unrealistic for a few reasons but I’d explore it if it was possible.
My preference for the D add is as follows
1. Pesce
2. Demelo
3. Bouchard
4. Karlsson (pipedream)
5. Pionk |
