Something funny?
- RichardRoma

The last week there were talks he was on the outs. Now extended. I like it, just think it’s funny. Silenced that talk.

See that's it, people don't seem to get that the Sabres pretty much locked themselves into a contract for contract deal. A lot of teams aren't or can't take back a contract. Not much flexibility unless you move out a few.

I think Montour actually danced out the door signing as well.

Wouldn't you the way he was used.

The "3 defensemen" and the what makes sense for us (to seek an nhl trade this season) are direct quotes

Not that I think it's going to happen with this ownership group, but firing someone a year after an extension isn't exactly the rarest thing in the NFL.

I have never once denied our bright future.

I’m just not going to keep punting expectations

They need to win games and make the playoffs now.

And before people say “We all agree” that’s BS.

Boss is sitting here saying that might not be there expectations

Many people are already backing off the “big summer” comments.

Some people here are afraid to put clear cut expectations on this team

- sbroads24

Who said that aren't expectations? I fully expect them to make the playoffs this year. That's my expectation. The disagreement is that some people think that he needs to make a ton of moves to get there, and if he doesn't, he is incompetent. And they may be right *IF* we don't make it. We seem to disagree on how to get there. I just think it is completely unfair to criticize when the offseason is a week old.

I saw last week that Montour had a monster couple of weeks at the end of that year under Donnie's system. That said, I don't blame any of them for wanting out. That isn't a reflection on the player, Adams or Meatballs.

Huh?

Thompson and Cozens (who I was referring to) were already in the system when Adams took over. So was Dahlin

Legitimately the three most important positions a GM needs when building a team was already taken care of for him

He didn’t need this long ass rebuild

So put this all another way. If we are looking at the next 5 years, which franchises would you trade places with? And I don't mean who you *might* trade places with, I mean who you would absolutely trade places.

- Colorado
- New Jersey

That's my list. Vegas (great in short term, iffy after that) and Carolina (very well-run) are honorable mentions

You've been smooching Adams butt all day, it's impressive how bought in you are from the idea of winning in the future.
- washedup20

The better question is, why aren't you? Aren't they set up for it? Do you think he is going to be Darcy 2.0 and fall in love with his players? I have no reason to doubt him at this point.

Why not Adams, he let Stank play him at wing.

And he was fired not long after that. Unless I am mistaken, Stank was pretty much running the franchise after Botterill was let go. Besides, that wasn't even in the top 20 list of terrible things that Stank did.

That’s where I’m at as well.

I don’t see why we cannot make the playoffs by making sound effective moves.

Does it mean to do the bare minimum? No.

Doesn’t mean we have to sell and arm and a leg to do it either.

And I also think that Adams will be more aggressive at the deadline than he was last year. Our cupboard is full and we have cap room this year to do it. I can agree to disagree about last year. It is absolutely time to take yet another jump and put our hat in as contenders.

Bills extend McDemott and Beane until ‘27.
- Lilroot9

One way to read those extensions is as a "bonus" for getting the stadium built. Had they not turned the franchise around, getting a stadium built would have been way harder - if not impossible. Imagine how much more pushback there would have been if the Bills were still perennial 8-9 finishers

No, but it was Adams who let a Dman leave who would have fit the system nicely because he either didn't see it or because he couldn't get the Vibes back with Montour.

They would've altered their marketing plan to match the Sabres. Potential and hope are all that's required.

Contend for what? the Sabres sustainable rebuild allows a winning window form 2025/28

Kruger stank. Hard to wash off.

I don't blame that move 1 bit on Adams. Montour never produced like he did this year, until this year. Other than flashes. He was good and I always thought he could be more effective than used here. But I dont think anyone thought he'd be a 70+ pt player.

Where am I wrong.

Dahlin
Thompson
Cozens

Those are Botterill’s guys. That’s a fact.

Adams has not needed to go out and find a 1C or even a 2C after trading Eichel

That’s an enormous benefit

Let him leave? Is that how it works? Montour wouldn't sign an extension so what was his recourse? And again, this is all revisionist history. Montour wasn't the Montour that he became. From what I remember, Adams tried to get him to stay and Montour didn't want to. The franchise was in a bad place at that time - why would he stay?

This is where so many people want to have it both ways.

"Lets go out and get better players" means that we should NOT have grown our prospects. We should have moved on from these guys and got better players NOW. So many of these guys had no value at all - they rebuilt them into what we have today. The "win now" crowd wanted Tage, Mitts, and others moved when they had no value. That's why it is such a fallacy.
