He can’t until July anyways right?
- sbroads24

Technically yes, but they could have had the agreement done by now, like Dahlin and the Sabres. And we wouldnt hear his name in the rumour mill.

Yeah, he's not a UFA like 39 was saying, thought he was thinking Pesce

I can't get there. If his number was in the 5's he'd have already signed with the Canes. Its gotta be higher imo.

I don’t want to trade draft picks but if it’s for Pesce, you do it. He’s top shelf, and you don’t look back. You make it work however you can and worry about it later. It’s not like you have to worry about him. He’d solidify the top 4 and we’d be in good shape. Then sign Andersen or Varlarmov and if you don’t do anything else, I can live with that

Pesce, right? He has a year left.

I thought it was age based, not just a blanket rule.

He'll be 30 when his new deal starts.

Are you good with signing him to a max term deal for over $6M per?

That's it to, if he is signing a extension for 5 or 6mill, why wouldn't Carolina just sign him. They have like 20mill in space.

Think the number may be closer to 7. Assuming his agent is negotiating based on an 87.5 mil cap starting next year, thats about an 8% hit. I think hed get that in FA

its CAR though, for all i know 5.5 is as high as theyll go.

I don’t think he gets 8 years from anyone. He isn’t that caliber of player.

If it came down to it though I absolutely would and worry about it later.

We’ve drafted high and signed “value deals” so we can afford to take one on the chin in 4/5 years if it means a step towards contention now

Yes, he’s been great and he shouldn’t break down that quick. Our top 4 could use that “experience” like a Patrick or Teppo and he isn’t that old as they were. Yes, he will be paid more than they were but I think he’d be worth it. He passes the charts & eye tests

I wonder what Tulsky sees that they are even willing to move Pesce in the first place.

I dont think this is driven by Tulsky as much as it is by Dundon. But, Pesce is a tier below the core guys. So they like him, the same way we might like Mittelstadt. But if Mittelstadt suddenly wanted 8 mil or whatever, this isnt the guy we'd bite the bullet for.

Exaggerating for effect a bit, but you get the idea.

I think you are selling Pesce short on a tier below.

His metrics have declined the last two years.

Also begs the question, how would he look outside of that system ?

I’m not advocating against adding Pesce. I’m all for making a move for him, but just considering the flip side of the coin.

You can say that about several players but his numbers may have declined but are still good. As a partner with Power (not Powers, by the way as people say), he’d would excel. You can’t be afraid to pull the trigger on a move that improves the team immensely.

I’m a UConn grad. Love Tage, always have, love Jake Richard, want Matthew Wood at 13 but if 13 goes for Pesce, so be it

I want a UConn line in 3-4 years but I want a contender next season more

Only difference I would say is CBJ had to overpay with $ and term because he was a pending UFA *this offseason. Pesce has a year left so it’s definitely possible Pesce wouldn’t wanna be married to the Sabres for the next 9 years.

I think a 6 year 36 mil extension is in the ball park.

I personally don’t see a non point producing D man get 7+

What you need to keep an eye on is how much of the salary cap will be going toward defensemen

Dahlin at 10
Samuelsson at 4
Power at 7

Sabres can’t add a 7-8 mill defensemen.

That would be way too much cap space dedicated to defense

As a percentage of Cap, how much is the floor- ceiling range to be spent on F D G groupings seperately?

I'd be fine if they paid the highest % in the league, with 2 #1's. If you can get the right guy for 6-7m, do it.

People speak of Pesce being a product of his environment but I think that is Mayfield 100%

Not a huge fan of his.

I want a Top 4 where you say who is the weak link and you really have to think. Especially with the system we play. (I won’t comment on Goaltending)

I definitely agree with you on mayfield. He’s not my pick, just a gut feeling.
