Don't get emotional, individual stats are meaningless in a team sport.

Ah, good to know. I had thought that they were putting up big numbers in a terrible season.

For once, I agree. I hate that we have the President's trophy banner hanging up. All that says is that you failed in the playoffs.

Look at it another way. So many people here were shot in the arse with the Vegas owner saying that they had to win in X years. He didn't say this year, he didn't say next year. He said x years. They had a plan (he also didn't say go out and replace every player with a better player, which is how some of you interpreted it). Adams has a plan as well, and so far it is going well. You have to walk before you can run. We are jogging right now.

Missing the playoffs is a terrible season...that is the only measuring stick.

I don't get why you keep saying this. I think everyone says that the expectation is to make the playoffs this year. I want to be good for a good long time and win multiple cups. As was said a minute ago, they haven't screwed up yet. They just have a different plan / style / whatever than some people here.
- Slump Buster

Multiple cups?

I'd be overjoyed with one.

Hell, I'd be ecstatic if they made the playoffs and won one round!

This is a good question that got skipped over a bit.

2 big factors to me:

-3 years left on a great value deal for Tuch, who is 27. 4 years left on Skinner, who is 31.

-2 ELC years remaining on Quinn, Peterka, and Levi.

They have a phenomenal opportunity this year and next, but don't seem interested in giving this year their best effort. Year 3 might be the peak.

Beyond that are big questions and changes. What do you do with a 30 year old Tuch? Skinner's deal is almost up. Questions on 2/3 of you top line, who is going to step up? What does Levi turn in to? How do you handle the next wave of contracts?

If you think this is a 5+ year window, it's based on assuming a couple of these recent picks become very good 1st line players and Levi is the guy.

Because they resigned their captain and alternate captain, the Sabres dont seem interested in "giving this year their best effort"

Do you actually think before you post.

Man, you're so negative. The team is on the upswing and your still crying.... 😭

I think most of us have that expectation

There’s a few that don’t.

It’s also in Adams best personal interest to elongate this rebuild as far down the road as possible and avoid any hard expectations

I dont buy that. The byproduct of exceeding expectations is that now people have concrete expectations. its not enough to just say we grew or whatever, theyve given fans something to aim for. Which is just another way of saying there's a measuring stick he could fall short on.

Somebody gets cooked if they miss next year.

See this right here is my issue^^^

It should be.

Because if they don’t, all people will post is about the 2025 cap and how great Isak Rosen looks and give Adams these moral victories. it’s just Groundhog Day all over again.

It’s about winning and only winning from here on out. You don’t agree with that?

In my view I think a franchise is much better off going through a methodic build as that is the best way to win even the first cup. Ideally you want to put off going all-in for as long as you can. Eventually you only do that because your window is closing. That's why I hate when people say that I am not interested in winning. I want to win as much as anyone else, and I want to do it for a good long time. I have waited my whole life - I am fine doing what we are doing now.

Sure, I agree with that part. But that isn't what WashedUp said. Two years ago was a big success because the ship was righted. Last year was a success because we made another huge jump. Barring crazy injuries, this year won't be a success if they don't make the playoffs. No moral victories this year.

Sabres would need to finish with less then 82 points for donnie to get canned.

Fake .500 is the Mendoza line IMO.

Upl will replaced with comrie if he falls on his face

I forget who said it, but it was reported that they are not at all married to him. I still think he has a fair chance to be a good goalie, but it would not at all stop me from getting another guy.

What if Adams long term plan was 5 years and the Sabres flirted with the playoffs in year 3?

Donnie is not on the hot seat. You guys are putting "fan pressure" on a situation where there's very little pressure.

Relax......

You're being extremely negative assuming I'm being negative about two guys I never mentioned. Their success is ultimately not determined by 4th liners.

Topic is their window. They have talent, cap space, and assets to contend this year. I think they are looking further down the road and I don't think you actually disagree.

Is there really a scenario where Donnie gets canned? I can't imagine that. I am not saying that they should or shouldn't based on X points. I am saying that - after what Terry has been through with the last decade of clowns - there isn't any way that he isn't our coach after next season.

I didn't say Granato was. I said if they miss the playoffs next year, someone gets cooked.

Fan pressure is exactly what facilitates that. The old saying? Towns fire managers, owner just gives them the news. This much failure over this long a period means most people's fandom (in terms of what theyll spend to see them) is largely conditional.

They pulled a lot of people back in. You lose nearly all of them if the team plateaus or does worse than last year.

And they're going to want us to buy them a new arena soon. Better get to winning
