if Smith is no longer on the board at 5, flip a coin between Leonard and Reinbacher imo

Those teams both get what they deserve - mr.peanut
I think they both did some good moves as well. Ekholm for the Oilers and Oreilly for Toronto. Among others, but this is just from the top of my head.
If the Oilers would not have been so stubborn with not using Campbell, things could have been different. You have to be able to adapt and base your decisions in the now sometimes and not with the regular season. The Panthers and Bobrosky being a good example of that. They started with Lyon who was hot for a while to get them in the playoffs, but they went back to the 10 M man after a few games vs Boston.
Both teams could use some depth up front on the cheap and maybe keep working on their d.
A great team can make a good goalie look great as well. |

I guess if he's projected to become a legit #1 NHL dman it could be worth it to draft Reinbacher if the habs deem he's the best player available, but I'd be sort of disappointed in a way because I would definitely rather see them add a skilled forward who can put the puck in the net.
anyway I know so little about these guys that I have no frickin' clue what kind of NHL players they could become.

Symba asked and I went with Reinbacher.
Mind you, I dont know any of these kids.
But maybe Hughes gave away habs pick already with some of this comments. |

well his name does sound like he can make some tasty plays, with a defensive awareness that is simply smooth as butter but at the same time is always willing to throw salt on his opponents' wounds, when things get rough.

I think Hughes like Leonard a lot (if they cant pick Smith).
Cant read too much into this, but habs look cold as (frank) on the russian. |

apparently when Vincent Lecavalier called Hughes to let him know that he's the one he chose to represent him as his agent, he didn't really understand his reaction, and he was like "uh, you don't sound very excited about this, Kent...". to which Hughes answered "you're hiring me to negotiate your contracts. you want me to have a poker face or not?”

btw this was a very deep and meaningful popcorn allegory, in case it wasn't obvious.

You know what's going to happen with Michkov? He's going to play out his contract then come over and dominate the NHL. That kind of talent sliding to fifth is nothing short of miraculous. sometimes you have to take risks and that's a risk worth taking. Benson and Leonard level talent can be found elsewhere than wasting a 5 pick on them. I'm good with Smith though if Michvok goes 4th. |

while that may be true, there's still too many risks imo.
and now we hear a rumor that Michkov would like to choose his future destination in the NHL, refusing to speak to different teams prior to the draft!
(frank) him, as good as he is.
even if he agrees to meet with the CH, do we really want this type of person in the CH organization? Is he a player who would really fit into the culture that Martin St. Louis is trying to establish with the organization?
To ask the question is somewhat to answer it. |

My fear is that we pass on Michkov and he becomes the next Kaprizov.
We will be in a much better cap and contract situation by the time he comes over. No rush to have him this year, in fact I think the delay helps the Habs. What's the difference between having a prospect develop in AHL or KHL? |

the problem is not the first 3 years of waiting. we'd have that with anyone they will draft.
the problem is after.
what's going on with the war? another year or 2? 5? 10? for now it doesn't prevent russian players from coming over, who knows if that will remain? probably, but noone knows the future for sure.
will the kid sign another KHL contract after this one? not likely, but again not impossible either.
will his Royal Highness want to play for Mtl or does he prefer another team? this one, c'est la goutte qui fait déborder le vase imo
and as good as he is, he's not much bigger than Caufield. avec RHP, Gally, Farrell, Mesar, Hutson..... ca va faire les peewee. |

Height / Weight
Kaprizov at draft 2015 -- 5' 9" / 176 lbs Now -- Height 5.10 -- Weight 202
Michkov at draft 2023 -- 5.10 172 Who knows by the time he comes over
But we can't judge by his size at 18 and what he will be like at 21 or 22
All I am saying is Smith had better be head and shoulders better than Michkov. |

for a second there I was sure this was a typo, but then I didn't remember anything about Federov being forced to join the army, except maybe for the "red army" loll.
So Fedotov is a 6'8 goalie prospect for the flyers..? damn.
