Also, as Pat would say... Another win for Hugo! - Mashadar
nah, you know I'll leave that awkward and lazy AF expression for everyone else to use...
honest question though, do people still think Hughes is just Gorton's puppet? I get that Hughes isn't acting alone but to me, it's pretty clear he's much more than just a "yes man"... anyway lol. |

He's appreciated in the lockeroom and doesn't mind being the 7th defenseman.
It's also highly possible he gets waived/sent down.

I don't really have an issue with Wideman.
Cheap contract, no long-term commitment, does not cause problems when he is asked to sit or play reduced minutes, veteran presence if injuries occur, seems like a positive presence in the locker room.
He is fine.

problem is, he's not the 7th dman. he's the 9th.

I think Gorton is looking at the bigger picture - who they have now, who they think they will have in a few years, where will the holes are, what the cap looks like etc.... and defining the boundaries of what the team direction should be. Basically, the over-arching roadmap from 10,000 feet.
I think Hughes is tasked with finding the pieces to put that plan into action, in whichever way he can. |

Yes, because as last season showed us, everyone is always healthy.
He's a 750k depth guy, he's not even a factor in whatever decisions they have to make.

oh sure, he's not a problem. but they have 24 players signed for camp. 9 dmen. something's gotta give. |

Would you rather have Wideman as a 7th D or some kid that does not get to play regularly, that would probably benefit more in Laval?
I have no issued with Wideman, given where the team currently is in their rebuild.
If they were a playoff team, I might see things differently. |

He is also a RHD, something they NO depth at the moment for. He's the perfect player for a last shot at tanking |

I agree will all that
but if you keep Wideman as your 7th d, which other 2 do you get rid of? |

unless they hire even more incompetent people to treat player injuries, I doubt they finish at the bottom again. I get that it's interesting to draft high but (frank) this, I really hope it doesn't happen.

I fully expect Edmundson to get traded.
So you start the season (if everyone is healthy)
Guhle
Matheson
Harris
Savard
Xhekaj
Kovacevic
Barron
So Wideman is waived or MAYBE Xhekaj is sent down if he has a bad camp but I doubt it.

I think Harris will be traded like Romanov last year.
Edmundston at the tdl.

I think the wild card is Kovacevic - he was unexpectedly good last year.
Can he do it again? Does he continue to improve as well?
Also, sophomore slumps happen, they can move a few of those guys to Laval and back, if needed, too.

I don't see it. He does look like an expendable piece on the left side but you're not getting the kind of value we got for Romanov imo. Might as well keep him.
I think Edmundson is gone sooner than later, betting on him getting healthy and/or better to raise his value doesn't sound like a smart bet.

Maybe.
Lane Hutson is joining the team next season, odds are we need to make room for him so he can become the next Adam Fox. |
