Interesting idea here after the Nashville/Colorado Johansen trade. Some sort of swap involving Bailey and Barrie would check a few boxes for the Isles. - eichiefs9
Goodbye 2nd round pick. Unless Lou agrees to retain part of Bailey's salary of course....
But yeah, it would check some boxes indeed! |

There'd be hope if this was the NBA. They were dealing 2029 and 2030 draft picks the other night. |

Trotz does like Bailey. - chazpet
That would be a real short GM’ing career for trotz. |

Quick question:
What’s the name of the Islanders reporter who criticized Putin, and was pushed out of the industry?
IIRC, he’s now a math teacher.
Thanks in advance - Atomic Wedgie

The article mentions a swap of Bailey for Barrie with Barrie having similar cap hit. Why would the isles have to give up a 2nd to complete this trade? Trotz thinks Baileys hockey prowess is through the roof apparently.

Because Barrie is younger than Bailey and is still a useful player? The rest of the NHL GMs are aware that Bailey was a healthy scratch with some frequency last season, and especially in the playoffs. I hope you're right that Trotz loves Bailey so much that he wants him even without a draft pick. I am doubtful, but we shall see...

I have to give Pierre-Luc Dubois props. For a guy who not considered elite, he garners a lot of attention. Especially with his jeckyl and hide demeanor. Me i would pass on him....to self centered. |

UFA class is weak. Couldn’t be a better time for him to demand a trade. Both him and his agent are well aware of that. |

Due to Bailey not being good no matter what trotz said. |

I see them going after a D at the draft....Buying out Bailey and making a push for one of the three top forwards. - Nfdbulldawg

The important part of that is that Barrie still has solid value. Bailey doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank.
He had 25 points in 64 games last season. Barrie had half of that in 24 games with Nashville after the trade from Edmonton
Although, Barrie is making $5M next year and Bailey only $3.5M, so I'm not sure that wouldn't offset some of the cost to move Bailey. |

Yes, that was my main point. The fact that Barrie is a little younger is just a bonus. I read somewhere that Trotz is looking to make the Nashville team younger and faster, so taking on a guy who's even slightly older makes it that much easier for him to tell Lou he wants that 2nd round pick too. As you indicated, Barrie has some respectable offensive numbers for a d-man. Go for it, Lou! |

I would pony up maybe...maybe a 3rd...No 2nd round here...I would buy Bailey out before giving up a 2nd to move him.

Giving up a 2nd when the Islanders do not have a #1 does not seem to be the way to go. Especially for a player that will not put the Islanders over the top. |

I agree, if you do than you might as well close down your farm system. That is where I think this team has failed. You need a balance to stay competitive.

It goes back to 12 years of Snow and having a litany of top 5 picks, along with first round picks in general who never amounted to anythign either on the isles or in the NHL. I cannot think of worse drafting by any team than Snow and his drafting from Bailey to Bellows and everyone in between. The few good picks don't outweigh the amount of misses in the top 5.
Ill also add that I dont believe there has ever been a first overall draft pick who walked for nothing in return. Horrific asset management, and set the isles back for not putting business first. |

Garth is not in charge anymore. Lou is in charge and it's on Lou and his staff to draft and develop players better than what was done in the past. |
