#Isles Lou Lamoriello said there were a couple of RFAs that will not be tendered qualifying offers. But Lamoriello didn't want to announce which RFAs just yet to make sure they didn't find out via the media. Deadline for QOs is Friday.

Obviously, Korn is very tight with incoming Nashville GM Barry Trotz.

I know . I don't expect much. But then I hear the rumors and see rumored players being moved and say , the Islanders couldn't make a better offer??? Just frustrating. But I keep checking all the sites and keep hoping for The Day. I guess someone had me hoping it was today. Thanks Capt.

Tyler Toffoli - Nice pickup by Devils. This is a team to watch...They have speed, skill, and now they have playoff experience...Hughes will be a little more mature. They add a solid netminder and watch out.

This is quite a quote from Lamoriello yesterday:

This is a unique year for a lot of reasons because of the cap. And when you talk unique because of the cap, you also have to think of the year coming up after this year and the year coming up after that. We're in this position because of what happened with assumptions -- which it's real bad word -- of where the cap would be. So some of the signings that we made three years ago [...] we would not have done because, in your planning, you also know what the progression will be and can be because of where the revenues are going.

Covid or no Covid, you need to be careful with contracts in a Cap world and especially for bottom pair players.

I don't totally understand the statement.

Three years ago we were 3 months into Covid. He can't possibly be suggesting that he thought revenues would continue to rise with zero fans in attendance, can he?

I came here to post that same quote. This sounds a lot like Lou admitting that 2023-24 is a recovery season.

Seems like damage control at this point. The Cap has been a challenge for Lou.

I don't get it either. At least he is taking some responsibility (not that it helps the current situation).

I remember chief and others getting heat when discussing the Islanders Cap. I guess it was valid.

I didn't take the 3 years part of the quote quite so literally; i.e., as an exact marker as to when he misjudged the cap. I'm thinking he likely was referring to the general time period before Covid, like 3 1/2 to 4 years ago, and he was simply speaking imprecisely.

I only recall one or two posters saying things like "caps don't matter". I didn't take such comments very seriously.

If that's the case then it pretty much only applies to Lee, who signed his big ticket in July of 2019. Nelson signed that May, but I don't think there's a single complaint about his deal.

Otherwise all the deals you could take issue with were signed 2020 or later.

Lee was a bad contract from the start. Cannot blame Lou on Bailey. JGP's deal probably does not help. We've discussed the 4th line should have younger and cheaper type players. I know it's a sore subject for some.

Bailey's contract was Snow. It was signed in 2018, prior to Lou's hire.

They're building a cup team for sure. That Hughes kid is the real deal
