I think what Lou is saying is, besides a backup goalie, you are looking at this year's team. At least they can dress a full team. Several teams have no space and need a half dozen players. |

I don't totally understand the statement.
Three years ago we were 3 months into Covid. He can't possibly be suggesting that he thought revenues would continue to rise with zero fans in attendance, can he? - eichiefs9
It’s an excuse. A very bad one at that. |

Not fitting for a Hall of Fame GM and something you expect from someone like Garth. |

Yeah he pretty much said exactly this when he finally said something a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why people are getting disappointed. |

We’re going to see the same team. Just have to hope these guys find a way to stay reasonably healthy, couple of young kids exceed expectations, and a few more improbable things jive right for us. Stars in line situation. That’s are Riad map for success this season. Once you accept that it won’t bother you as much when more then likely nothing happens today or tomorrow. |

Islander fans should be well trained in not a lot of moves. I hope we at least get some changes to the coaching staff. If some young players prove they are ready, I hope they get a real shot. Let this season at least be about finding out about some young talent.

I initially thought they would’ve got rid of the assistant coaches. That hasn’t happened yet which makes me think it’s not going to happen. Lameriello seems to be running it back with the same exact everything for this coming season minus whoever he can’t resign. |

Really going to be tough going on any sort of run if the team is pretty much running it back. I understand the Islanders are not in a good position for a lot of moves. Team will be a year older and slower. I'm just not sure on the idea of bringing back an 80-year-old GM. Why not have a new GM this year and the new GM has an evaluation type year this year and next year with more Cap space, he can hit the offseason running. |

I think he meant (although I could be wrong) that he had to rid the isles of bad contracts like Ladd, now Bailey and I’m sure trading Leddy was also for cap concerns (along with Devon Toews). I’m not trying to bash Snow for the 1,253 time but it’s possible that his accounting of the future assets vs the revenue and cap was off. It seems to me like Lou has had to add by subtraction a few times here. |

No question the Ladd and Bailey contracts hurt, but Lou added some big contracts as well. Nothing to do about Garth's time as GM now. Lou is in charge and he needs to fix it. |

I don’t think it’s as simple as it’s Lou’s job and he needs to fix it. There’s a lot of moving parts. My point in referencing Ladd and Bailey vs current contracts like Barzal and Horvat, is the latter are likely the isles first line. Ladd and Bailey were albatross’ in that money was spent on guys who weren’t playing. It would have been helpful obviously if the farm had more assets which is a fair expectation after 12 years of drafting. |

Senators are saying draft picks don’t have to be part of trade for Debrincat. Could they possibly be looking for a a player whose name rhymes with smailey? |

Things could have gone very different if Garth bothered to hire a decent coach. This is still very much Garth's roster. Lou has not done enough to add skill to the roster when he had the Cap space outside of Horvat. Hall of Fame GM has to figure out how to sign better FA's. |

Hearing Semyon Varlamov is leaning towards signing an extension with the #Isles. Sounds like it could be a two-year deal if/when it gets done. Also, Josh Bailey remains out there in the trade market as NYI try to free up his $5M cap hit. |

Have to think Varly gets more games this year to keep Sorokin fresher. I'd rather not give up a decent pick to have to move Bailey. |

It’s why he should have rebuilt but unfortunately the ownership just dropped a lot of money on a new arena so he had to make it work. Not ideal but I have faith the isles will be better next year. |

No issues with going for it when they did. It was the right move.
But the last two seasons haven't been good and they're still clinging to the idea that they're a real contender and they're not. |

They need a young GM with personality that can sell a vision and sign quality FA's. |

Bingo! It was working with Barry and they had two ECF runs. They then did not follow up on those runs and add talent to help get the team over the top and they missed their window now very likely. You cannot come from one game of the Cup and just add Chara and Parise during that offseason. |

If that's the case then it pretty much only applies to Lee, who signed his big ticket in July of 2019. Nelson signed that May, but I don't think there's a single complaint about his deal.
Otherwise all the deals you could take issue with were signed 2020 or later. - eichiefs9
Lee is the guy I was thinking Lou had in mind when he made the comment. Lou probably wishes the contract was 2 or 3 years shorter. Lee has been a warrior for the team over the years, but has not been quite the force he was a few years ago. In fact, his +/- has been negative the past two seasons.

Have to think so John. If Lou was not happy with the Bo contract, he must have hated giving Lee 7 years.

Lee was definitely one of the ones who came to mind for me. They signed that in July 2019 at a time that they most certainly though revenue would continually climb. Palmieri may have been another. It's tough to say. He may have been generalizing more than we're interpreting but it certainly was a surprising admission, albeit correct. |
