I wonder if the former owner of the Sens still has the investigation open on the premeditated assault on Karlsons ACL by Cooke. Or has that case been closed?

in all honestly, I don't think Sullivan would go all in on a defenseman in the 0% percentile for defense.

Now, now.....isn't Dubas your GM?? He likes to "Tweak around the edges". I wouldn't get too revved up expecting BIG moves.....

But, rotating goalies, 5-6 d-men and 3rd and 4th liners....well....at that he has ample experience!

Shhhh....Don't ruin the Leafs fan's narrative, soldier.

I knew we'd be getting frequent Leafs fan visits when the Pens hired Dubas hahah

Lol dude, did you see the proposed trades through cap friendly? 1/4 trades is a leafs fan poaching our players for a penny.

I'm being a bit dramatic but most armchar GM trades are wild.

I have seen a bunch of Ruuta to team X for a 5th rounder. I would welcome that.

Also saw other fanbases valuing Granlund far more than we are. They are suggesting we get something in return. I am still leaning towards us just buying him out because his value is negative zilch.

I think we could offload Jeff C @ 50% retained pretty easily. Hit = ~1.575m. Obviously the caveat is JC agreeing.

We could really have a bunch of money to work with and the idea of sending a 1st, 3rd, + Petry to SJ for EK at 9.5 wont even hamstring us for cap. Could still make FA deals.

Longwinded post that hopefully sparks some discussion on why my thoughts were/are stupid.

It, like any potential deal involving Karlsson seems like a long shot, but I've thought Pit makes some sense for Karlsson. I don't know if he'd consider them "legit cup contenders" but definitely better than the Sharks and one of the few that has a chance that also has a need and a way.

If the Sharks included Barabanov for some additional draft capital, that would make sense too - I've read rumors that Pit was kicking tires on him.

I'm not gonna call Bedard a generational talent until he at least plays an NHL game. I'd put Ovechkin with Crosby and McDavid because no one since Lindros has been able to dominate in so many ways. Guys like Malkin, Matthews, and MacKinnon are a step down IMO.
- jmatchett383

I'd agree with that. I thought Matthews might get there, but that's probably where he belongs.

Definitely no forwards, but I'd throw in Brodeur and Lidstrom in as generational talents.

I actually made a comment about this in a thread a couple of days ago, but the idea I proposed was:

Granlund + #14 + Pickering
FOR
Karlsson #36 + (between $3.5M-5.5M retained)

If we can max that retained salary out, it has zero impact on the cap for the next 2 years. Given SJ roster Granlund likely plays top 2 lines and if he does OK may fetch a mid round pick at the deadline...

I do think there is value to having Karlsson and Letang on the same team...even though neither would likely play the same amount of time as usual -- hurts their stats but helps the team and their longevity. In a crunch though we could though keep one of them on the ice 90% of the time, lol.

I kept Petry, as useful experienced D-depth is a good thing and he would be a good backup in case of injury to Letang or Karlsson. However, I'd be OK if we sent him out and kept Granlund as well (I don't like buyouts).

As far as the blog... Karlsson's injury history would scare me. I'd be more interested in going after someone like Hanifin to play with Petry.

Although we might get decent results just trying Ty Smith. Think their games would compliment each other and while Petry doesn't have the offensive game he used to, he'd still be a good partner to learn from.

Would be great then to use the $22M in cap space and try to add as many (4 or 5?) of Barbashev, Domi, Compher, Bunting, Bertuzzi, Zucker as possible - with DeSmith splitting time with say Varlamov or Adin Hill, who are good enough and shouldn't cost a ton ($3-4M)...maybe take a flyer on trading for Lehner (probably cheap to acquire?)
