He was just speculating and stirring the pot with a troll video like an hour after breaking the Haula extension yesterday. Not actually something that he officially reported. |

Meh if you want to say 2 years was better ya id agree but the money is a non issue. Cap is only going up. For a third line center who can shift around the lineup and keep your star happy its a fair deal. - Theathletic is for libs
Everyone has been saying for years the cap will be going up 4, 5, even 6 mil. It hasn’t yet. It goes up 1 mil every season and there’s every reason to believe that is going to continue. Even with bettmans comments the other day, he has said the same thing in the past. |

A memorandum of understanding in the current collective bargaining agreement dictates that the cap can only go up 5 percent in any one year, so if it does go up $1 million for next season, this is how it could increase from there:
2022-23: $82.5 million
2023-24: $83.5 million
2024-25: $87.7 million
2025-26: $92.1 million |

This whole "we're trading for Hellebuyck even if an extension in place" doesn't really make a lot of sense unless Winnipeg is just going to give him away, which they're not. |

For sure, seems to be what everybody is expecting. Essentially what Seravalli and the other insiders have been saying for months now, should expect it to be into the 90s by 2025. We shall see |

Jordan staal just signed a more reasonable contract than haula. Staal offers way more defensively than haula. We got hosed. |

Dude everyone has been saying this forever. I’ve never not seen anyone in the league say well the cap is going up huge next season. |

Jordan Staal will be 35 before the season starts and just signed for 4 years. Nobody would've given him more than 2 years in FA. Nobody got hosed. Haula took less than market value to have the extra year, Staal did the same but got 2 extra years. Staals contract also contains a full no move clause in the first 3 years and a full no trade clause in the final year. |

Correct, they have been saying it. But that was premature to the escrow actually being paid off. The escrow is now expected to be paid off during this upcoming season. The cap is more likely than not going up next year. The fact that Bettman has FINALLY said the big increase could come next year, means a ton. Because its the first time he's actually said it.
The logical increase over the next few years is:
83.5M this year
~87M in 24-25
~91M in 25-26
~94/95M in 26-27
Beyond that, who knows. |

The cap was supposed to jump by a lot because of the new TV deal but then Bally sports went bankrupt and screwed everybody. It's caused a lot of problems for baseball teams too. |

Yep that's one of the reasons it didn't go up this year. It still could've gone up 2 or 3 million this offseason but both sides didn't want to negotiate beyond the minimum. Even more reason to believe it goes up big next year. Hell, even if it's not next year, it's going up big eventually. It won't stay flat for much longer, the league just can't have it happen. So next year(most likely timeframe), or 2025, whenever. It's going up big real soon.
Like I said, Bettman just saying it himself is a massive reason to believe it'll happen. Even amongst all the rumors this past season that the big increase is coming now, back in December Bettman said likely only a 1M increase will happen. And that was the case. Now, him flat out saying we could see 4M+ next year is huge. Just shows its likely coming.
Luckily for us, we arent living or dying by the penny like a lot of teams out there so its not *as important* as it is for some other teams. But it would be nice to get the extra room to be able to go add another difference maker or two in the future if something presented itself. |

He definitely *should* have been better. But thats just called being unlucky/super snakebitten to start the year. Back to back 40+ point seasons, great on the PK, solid matchup center, very good at faceoffs. He shot 4% below his career average this year, the 2nd lowest of his career in a season with 40+ games played, but if he shoots at his average hes closing in on a 20/50 season. Yeah, that kind of player definitely does not suck and he's absolutely worth the contract lmfao. He gets more on the open market. Somewhere in the 3.5-4M range, but probably only 2 years instead of 3. |

Even if he doesnt, i'll take ~15 goals/~40 points all day long. For barely over 3M? On top of all of the defensive capabilites? Yeah I'll take that. Like I said. Not a bad player at all. If that is your definiton of someone who sucks then more than half of the league is awful. Of course you ignore everything else in my response though. Typical. |
