So to clarify Adams was right in passing on trading Mitts for McDavid. - washedup20
Sweetie, the adults are talking now.
Actually, I did think of you last night, and for once not wondering how you find trolling all day long is fun. The Red Wings make their pick and then Stevie Y is interviewed. First, I can't believe that a GM would be doing interviews at a time like this. Shouldn't he and Adams be out 24x7 making their roster better instead of doing interviews?
"Steve, when will you make the playoffs?"
"Right now we are only focused on getting good players".
The nerve of him! They haven't made the playoffs in a long time. Doesn't he want to win? They should get that clown out of there. Am I doing this right?
I remember Forton gushing about the Sabres drafting Victor Neuchev. He bragged about how Sam's team had a first-round grade on the guy. Does anyone else remember this?

It was the group's final decision but no Benson was not everyone's top guy. That much im confident in.
I should clarify, I dont mean the other guys dont like Benson or his upside (I doubt he'd make a first round selection if it annoyed 40% of his staff or whatever), but rather that if the analytics department wasn't around, there's a good chance he wouldnt be the pick at 13. - Michael Ghofrani
I mean after Bedard I'd assume there's always disagreements.
There's no true science but they picked the highest upside and it's what the intelligent part of the fanbase has wanted for decades.

I bet the dissention wanted Barlow or Moore. - TheSabresTaco
Honestly ever since the seider or even quinn pick i no longer mind some off the board shenanigans, but like i mentioned before, Id be more confident in it if the non numbers guys making those suggestions, werent the architects of the worst drafting in modern hockey.

I just don't get how many teams passed over high-end talent for guys that really don't appear to have a high ceiling. Montreal fans are going bonkers right now.
Benson reminds me a ton of Skinner in that he is a puck hound and goes to the dirty areas. I've heard many say that he was the top defensive forward in the draft, which is really something when you consider everything else.

In fairness, the montreal fans are just nuts. Reinbacher is a top pair d-man. Their reaction to that is super weird.

That's what you're missing - I am not. Quite the opposite. I can call a spade a spade, and so many of you see this organization through the lense of the playoff drought (Washed and the others have no problems admitting this). So yeah, I appear to be a shill for Adams because I can objectively view what has happened and say that some things were good and other things weren't. Sure, should have upgraded 4D last year. That's the big dereliction of duty? Every roster has at least one. UPL and Comrie didn't work last year, just like some goaltending did work on half of the teams last year. That's objective analysis. - Slump Buster
Yes, you saying Jacob Bryson and Lyubushkin were "fine" and not absolutely brutal is definitely calling a spade a spade.

Because their are enough question marks about Benson.
How many players every year drop for certain reasons? A ton.
Rarely do they actually pan out to be "top 5 talents".
We should be expecting the production/path of a regular 13th overall pick.

I mean he survived the purge so they probably appreciate the.. traditional.. ways he views the ice as well as the quality scouting he provides. Having that angle is still important.
Having everyone built the same way in that type of environment isn't productive.

Im 100% on board with having that angle in their draft approach. Just not from him.

I believe I said that *at the time* it wasn't unreasonable to start the year with them at 5 - 6, but in hindsight they are a 6 - 7. We found out that Bryson isn't a long-term answer and yes, a move should have been made earlier. The problems started when the injuries hit and they weren't prepared to play pond hockey as 3 - 4. When the entire core was healthy (and we acquired Stillman), everything stabilized.
