OK. powerslave was talking him up. He’s smaller guy but does have some big hits. - Hatboro_Swords
Buddy is a die hard B's fan.
Here is our exchange last night on Clifton:
Him: Are there any free agents the Sabres are going after?
Me: Not much leaks out of 1 Seymour Knox Plaza since Adams took over. He and his lieutenants keep things pretty close to the vest.
Some of the "insiders" say that one and possibly two D men might be added. That only the Dahlin, Samuelsson and Power are locks.
Him: Dude, I love Connor Clifton. He's 5'11" and plays like he's Chris Pronger (obviously he was exaggerating a little, yes?). Clifton is UFA. Plays his balls off, has some skill, and takes sh!t from no one. I'd be all over him. Rock solid. Coming from me, as a die hard Boston fan; he's been a hell of a defensive Dman for the Bruins. |

Man I can’t complain that they are at least reworking the defense but Clifton is no where near a “significant top 4 D” add.
There has to be something else coming via trade and Lyubushkin and or Joker going out - sbroads24
Clifton honestly is a great add. They are now forced to make corresponding moves.

My buddy a big bruins fan said he’s a good signing for the Sabres. Good leader. Defensive defensemen and good partner for power |

Trades are coming. Brysons days are over my friends - TheSabresTaco
Gotta be Rochester bound.
Joker traded for help in net or up front? Maybe #7 with Johnson?

Clifton is the sneaky under the radar signing that isn’t a fancy sticker price but fills the exact role we are looking for.
No idea what they are thinking with Erik Johnson, but Clifton is a solid add |

Nice Call last night Power - Buff36
Thanks, but just going off what my buddy said. If he was good enough to play 78 games (albeit on the third pair, but maybe he's better than that?) for the best team in the league (that is, until....😂) , it works for me. |

Maybe. I think that we are looking for a guy that can slot in next to Power or Dahlin. If he fits with one of them the way that Sammy fit with Dahlin, it's a win.
I wonder if this takes us out of the race for Pesce. In theory there is nothing stopping them from making another move with Joker and/or Boosh heading out.

Its not a big name, but his 3 year numbers are exactly what youd want, in that hes above average defensively, plays the pk, and doesnt ruin your offense.
Its not exciting, its not the guy i wanted, but its also not matt dumba for 6 years or koorpisalo for 5 (seriously what is ottawa doing) . |

Do we like Clifton as the 4? Or do Johnson and Clifton make up the bottom pair? Which means Joker, Bryson and booshcan need to go.
Dahlin. Samuelsson.
Power. ????
Johnson. Clifton
Stillmen. |

Adams will say something along the lines of...."veteran presence who knows what it takes to win a Stanley Cup".
