So reasons why the team will probably make another jump:
- Levi for a whole season. People forget that for all intents and purposes, he is an addition since he only played 7 games last year.
- Clifton will slots in at 4D and pushes the other D down (and one to the box). Johnson *should* also be an improvement
- The kids continue to progress. There really isn't any reason to think that they won't continue to grow as they have been. I look for Krebs and JJ.
- Better depth on defense. I am assuming this will be true based on who we have now. The injuries in November killed us.
- The East isn't quite the grinder that it was last year. |

We’re literally witnessing it and he’s telling us at the same time.
We can call it GM speak all we want but Adams has been relatively transparent - sbroads24
He (rightly) doesn't want to pay stupid assets for John Gibson or Hele? That's a good thing.

Connor Clifton was good enough to play 78 games on historically what was the best regular season team ever, was THE BEST (YES, THAT'S RIGHT, THE BEST) defenseman in the entire NHL in power play goals against per 60 minutes played while shorthanded, his teammates loved him, the fans loved him, he hits, he fights, has great wheels and offensive upside, but....he sucks.
Am I doing this right? - Powerslave
It’s a decent attempt as a rookie, but you choose a player that majority liked the signing.
Stick to the garbage until you’re more comfortable:
Okposo
Girgs
Johnson
Bryson
Joker

Good post
I really like the signing and it wasn't a bottom barrel cheap deal. The Sabres liked Clifton, made him a priority and stole him from our arch rival.
Was a bit concerned when. I heard he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. I'm not sure if this has been verified? - Boss34
Apparently he had an awful game against Florida and the coach made a decision. |

I’m trying to find the press conference where Adams told us he was going into free agency and was going to sign Clifton and Johnson.
Anyone have the link ? |

Power Clifton Clifton has to prove he can play 2 to 3min more a game. He's a good get but still is a wait and see.
Johnson and Johnson They will have the silkiest Hair on the Ice. |

Clifton’s career average TOI is 16:59
He’s a fine player, but he’s 28 and he’s never proved he can play a big top 4 role.
Jokiharju played 22:00 + a lot of nights - sbroads24
That's funny - last season we had a 19 year old and two 23 year olds playing more minutes than that. So a 28 year old vet shouldn't be able to handle it?

I would love to see the double Johnson pair. There is definitely a porn reference to that. |

Well Jokiharju couldn’t handle it, and Power was the #1 overall pick, and I’m assuming you mean Samuelsson who was very mediocre for much of when he played + got hurt a bunch.
Are we really comparing Owen Power to Connor Clifton? |

Not even Yost, bringing both the other 2 back so quickly. I know leadership and stuff, but there were upgrades available even 4th liners that were better than both those plugs. |

I think the 2nd pair probably has minutes scaled back now that they theoretically have a more competent 3rd pair. |

He's an upgrade and someone that probably had some options. Good move by Sabres management.

Bryson couldn't handle it. I would go the other way and say why at 28 hasn't he been playing more than 16min a night. |

But did they really need to change up front?
They needed defensive help. They went and got it. Ask 30 different posters on here who their top target would've been, and you'd get several saying Gudas, Orlov, trade for Pesce (who I think is going the other way for Karlsson and that's why Carolina is holding tight tight now) and then you'd get 20 different answers. I got the answer of Connor Clifton from a die hard B's fan. I'll take his word over people who watch 6 B's games a year, and that's only because they're playing Buffalo.
They need help in goal. We'll see if he upgrades there. Of the goalies that were/are available THAT DIDN'T RE-SIGN WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS, the crop is thin and unimpressive. Everyone on here can do the math when they look at the goalie trade market. Saros? He isn't going anywhere. Hart? He isn't some huge upgrade over UPL where we need to spend assets to get him. Hellebuyck? You're going to pay through the nose, both in assets and, what's he want, $9 million? No Way. |

Youngest team with the 3rd best offense, pretty tempting to try and get the same results with the same players the following season.
Not sure why it's a problem? |

3 years, $3.333M AAV
This is a little pricey contract for the Sabres to give to Clifton.
