The bold is outright BS, when you consider they paid at least 75% of his $8M salary that year, and especially when it is likely that the Hall signing and subsequent play and retained trade to get him out of Buffalo is what solidified the cap floor, spend the bare minimum approach by Pegula.

Ok, they paid nothing for him in terms of acquisition price.

They paid his salary and gave him to Boston along with Larry Lazar for a 2nd and fast Larry (Anders Bjork)

In the pantheon of Sabres miscalculations and mismanagement, that ranks damn near the bottom. I'd say it's fine asset management.

Boston spent a 2nd on Taylor Hall and gave him away for free. Which is worse?

I think there was a context around that. People were chiding Adams for not having gotten more on a trade, even though Boston got nothing for him today.

I don't get it. Boston signed him as a UFA for 4x6m. Doesn't that mean he was quite valuable at the time?

You can’t be serious comparing the two, can you?

Hall scored 110 points as a Bruin. Also played in 25 playoff games as a Bruin with 10 goals and 17 points. He was firmly a fine top 6 winger for them.

He played 37 games in a meaningless last place Sabres team in Buffalo.

They got nothing for him by choice. They needed the space cleared before UFA and didn’t want/need to retain.

What's worse is if the result of trading Hall confirmed the spend as little as allowed on the roster in terms of cap approach that Pegula has adopted the past few years.

Think it depends on what they would have done with that money. Might be part of what caused 1 year deals on Ullmark, Sam, and Montour. If it did, it's was a massive mistake.

If you want to argue that Boston received out of Hall what they wanted, that's certainly a defensible position (although I'd disagree).

But they gave up a 2nd to get him and cashed him for nothing. The Sabres picked him up for nothing (other than salary) and cashed him for a pick.

That's a W in my book.

I believe it was the impetus to a cascading impact that still applies to the Sabres today.

No problems with what they did then or now. Adams did great to get a 2nd for him then, they were wise to dump him today.

Dude is on his 6th team now and the Sabres picked up a 2nd for nothing.

He was a massive disappointment and now he's gone. That's a win - except for Terry's pocketbook.

That's kind of you. He didn't really get a 2nd though. He retained, took a cap dump, and gave up Lazar to get it.

You're absolutely right. The alternative was to let him play out the year and get nothing for him.

The videos of Oliver Moore's skating are making the rounds today. I can only imagine he and Savoie on the same line.

Looking back, it was probably better. Keep Lazar and don't have Bjork.

Let's see if Kisakov beats Hall's Sabres goal total and then we can reassess

Kris Baker: While I think the Sabres will take Axel Sandin Pellikka because he's Cale Makar lite, but if they go forward instead of defense, Oliver Moore is this year's Matthew Boldy.

They essentially bought a 2nd round pick. I think that’s a fine way to spend Terry’s money. They should do it more often, when cap and circumstances allow for it.

I thought there was a crazy trade for Filip Forsberg the Sabres didn’t pull the trigger on right before he got traded for Martin Erat

If Sabres trade for Helly then they must be trading Levi. It makes no sense to have both.
