Might be hard to enjoy when they average like 6 goals against per game though.

But when you score 7……

Also the Sabres would have the puck…. A lot.
So I doubt. Maybe like 4 GA a game.

This used to be the line of thinking that got teams into trouble, the idea that a strong offense is the best defence. But it never really worked out that way. The research people did on it just showed that offensive d-men just became more high event, they didnt improve defensive numbers.

You said they went all in and ended worse than us. Doesn't mean Cat wouldn't have worked here. Doesn't mean Chychrun wouldn't have worked here. He'll Chychrun might have been enough when Dahlin and Samuelsson were both hurt to get us another point or 2 during that time. I wanted Cat, glad they didn't get him, but doesn't mean he wouldn't have been different here then in Ottawa.

Ah, I see. I didn't mean to imply that the trade made them worse or that we shouldn't have traded for him. I was saying that -given how much they still need on their roster and their dwindling assets - making the Debrincat trade was a bad idea for them. I am just not a fan of the player, and I think his contract status and probable next contract were other red flags. To be fair, they couldn't have foreseen the team going up for sale during the year because the owner died. Maybe if that didn't happen they would be able to re-sign him and not (possibly) end up getting less for him than what they paid to get him.

Oh absolutely but my thought process here is have players who are puck controllers, and you should have the puck more than the other team which should* lean towards more wins I’d hope.

If the Sabres want to bring him in. I’m all for it, let’s go.

you have to admit it would be chaos.

It would definitely be chaos, I just dont think it would make them better. Just a more extreme version of what they are. They could stand to generate more chances at 5v5 though.

You want the puck more, get a better Face/off guy

Mehhhh.

I believe that’s also mentioned that face-off percentage doesn’t really correlate to puck possession.

Also that’s boring. I want chaos. 😂😂

Faceoff wins do not equal more possession time though

Really, and where is that at. Win more faceoffs and your not chasing the puck as much.

Going from the worst face off team in the league, to the best face off team in the league is like a 2-4 face off difference throughout the game.

It’s about as minuscule as you can get

I think this stat has been proven to be waaaaaay overrated throughout the years. One of the primary reasons is that teams go out and get a Cody Eakin because he is better at faceoffs than other guys. Of course, he has a sightly-better chance of winning a faceoof (after all, the elite guys are only a few percetage points better), but you then get punched in the proverbial gut because he is not good everywhere else.

Well for a team like the Sabres who give up a lot of Chances, especially in there zone of off Face/offs it is more than a miniscule thing. The Sabres could create so much more if they actually started with the Puck More.

faceoffs have the potential to be important. sometimes they are, sometimes they're not, sometimes santa clause visits me in july to discuss his midterm reports of my children's behavior.

Not sure what giving up chances and face offs have to do with each other

Again, the difference is a few face offs per game thaf get labeled a “win”

Not all face offs are clear wins with possession either. A lot of them end up pick battles.

Bulk of the sabres chances are given up off the rush, not off the face off. Even then FO percentage doesnt factor in the battles for the puck when it's a split/scramble draw.

Really should be measured as a team stat, more often than not takes all five guys off the draw doing their job properly to ensure clean possession.

NHL never can get it quite right. The show was borderline unwatchable. The Boston coach gives a heartfelt speech about overcoming his alcohol problem and it’s immediately followed by giving out free beer to the crowd. You can’t make this shlt up.

Some analogy. For a team as Defensively Challenged and so Offensively gifted, I would want to start with the puck more than the other team. It only creates more opportunity for the Team.

Would he be the worst idea? Young, the team knows him, defensively minded. Wouldn’t he be a better option than some of what’s been thrown around?
