I will not make a single excuse for Kevyn to not do what needs to be done. He needs to pay up.
That doesn't mean that these real trades for real players that teams really want aren't a challenge. - TheSabresTaco
They are, that's why he's using different colored Markers!
Red: Hot and Spicey
Orange: Flame is turning up
Yellow: Would be Good for are Team, but afraid to pull the Trigger. |

Wow, that is.... tempting. I think I would have to do it as it is it checks both short-and-long-term boxes. I have a feeling that Winnipeg would want more than that. - Slump Buster
Winnipeg needs a top-6 center with RFA control and those are incredibly expensive |

They are. We don’t need to hear about it.
Go make a god damn move then tell us it was difficult
Stop making built in excuses for Slump Buster to bring up in September when their big acquisition was Caleb Jones for a 3LD.
Go get a top 4 D and shut up about it - sbroads24
right to the (frank)ing point. get the job done and quit b1tchin about it.

Mock trade:
Sabres trade Mittelstadt and UPL for Hellebuyck extended 1 year at $8.5 (completed July 1)
Hellebuyck wants to wait one year to sign a longer deal for the cap to go up - Hank Balling
Umm. If you extended him 2-3 years at that price. I am okay with it
The Sabres don’t want to spend that much on a goalie though |

I would be hard pressed to believe Adams hasn't prioritized current and future strong mobile transition defensemen and that starts tonight |

He talked about the need to make "tough choices" when discussing the need to win.
Adams showed his hand here. It's coming. |

I was thinking about this last night. I mean this as a legit question and not trying to troll anyone. What exactly needs to be done?
For example, I am going to assume that a player that is trending upwards is going to be on the roster. It is highly unlikely that we would trade Krebs, Quinn, because they are young and still trending up. Prospect-for-prospect trades are very rare and generally only made when an org doesn't like a prospect.
So with that in mind, what parts of the roster are really up for grabs?
4D
Yup, needs to happen. No excuses, we can hit a home run here. This has to happen.
4th line
Sure, I don't think anyone wanted both Girgs and Okposo. They were *fine* last year. They have a purpose, and it isn't just leadership. They both won't be back next year but are fine for another year.
Goalie
Should happen
5 - 6 D
A move could happen here, although having Joker here isn't a bad thing. Stillman showed some good underlying numbers after we got him.
So I think we all agree that 4d and goalie upgrade needs to happen. After that, I don't get where the "do something else" crowd is looking for a move to be made. In other words, is it a bad thing if we bring back a player that is still trending up? Our best chance for taking the next jump is Quinn, Power, JJ, Cousins taking that next step.

The ideal goalie would be John Gibson.
His cap hit and contract term aligns with what Adams is looking for.
Not saying we trade for him. Just saying in terms of what he’s looking for

Their main trade assets (picks and mid prospects) will be prioritized on a top 4 D. The rest goes to the potential goalie market. Think Olofsson gets shed for a pick in 2032 and replaced in free agency.

Does John Gibson get you more wins than UPL? And does the cost of acquisition and the contract match the pros he brings to the team?

I'm not jumping into this pool. The projected ceiling of Smith is at least an entire tier ahead of Moore.
None the less, fascinating stat. - TheSabresTaco
Id still say smith is better, but if i can find a guy who can score at evens like Smith, a top 5 projected player, at 13th overall who also has the skating moore does, I have to think he's gotta get serious consideration. |

How could that contract term be desirable? I go back and forth with some of the guys here because I don't want to do something that puts our cap in a bad space x years from now. I can see their "figure it out later" if we are going for a guy like Meier. But for a backup goalie?

I like his GAR and WAR versus UPL. He also tends to start strong and sink due to workload so I think there's a natural fit as a split starter here |
