Can a team retain salary for more than two players at a time? I thought there was a limit to how many players a team can retain salary for? The reason I ask is the Flyers are obviously retaining quite a bit on Hayes, and I reading The Flyers will retain half of DeAngelo's salary to ship him back to Carolina. That would mean Sanheim going to St Louis would not have salary retention meaning the Flyers have to take a hefty contract back. Krug is the player I am hearing and at 32 I can see why he is not willing to lift his NMC for this deal. Maybe the Flyers can promise Krug they will ship him to a contender that might need him? Still with 4 years left on his contract that is going to be tough if the Flyers can't retain some.

you can retain on 3 in a year. Why on earth would they retain on sanheims 8 year deal? that would be dumb.

you and everyone else have heard the same thing!!!

If true retaining 50% and getting a nothing prospect back I rather hold onto him to see if you get a pick later. Maybe rather buy him out as this way you keep an extra retention spot and allows more flexibility to be a middleman in a deal to retain.

This move has Torts written all over it. He wants players gone no matter what.

Glad to see they want to move Sanheim out.

Yup. All that nonsense about Torts willing to let bygones be bygones and work with Tony D is nonsense. You just know Torts dug his heels in.

Keep Tony D and flip him for a pick at the deadline.

Krug is a good player but at this stage he wants to play for a contender. Danny just has to promise him he will be moved to a contending team and that should be enough to get this deal done. The problem is his contract at 4 years and $6.5M per.

how can you make that promise?

Rumor is Rangers in for TK. Not sure what a trade would look like, but I like the spice.

Any contending team will ask the flyers to retain. That forces the flyers to retain on two contracts for 3 and 4 years. One open slot. Unless the flyers are willing to absorb a bad contract. Danny be working that phone today

Can someone explain to me why on god's green earth do we want Krug. He is just like Hayes with a worse contract - some offense, no defense. Except he is an actual defenseman. If we need to accept him to get rid of Hayes, just keep Hayes rather than kicking the can down the road

My assumption is they will retain salary for Krug to trade him.

The way I am reading it it would be for for Sanheim. Trading a bad 8 year contract for a a bad 4 year contract.

I’m not overly concerned if we were to take Krug back. The cap is going up significantly and we have a long road ahead of us, we might be turning a corner in 4 years, not ready to compete. And that’s a might be.

I mean, it’s pretty obvious. If they trade Sanheim and DeAngelo they have to have someone play defense and they will be getting their third first round pick in a deep draft to jump start their rebuild. Who cares, they are going to stink for five years minimum.

I don’t get the hate for krug. In a nutshell hes a 5/6 dman that can help on pp. he’s not ideal by any means for this rebuild but with 4 years compared to sanheim 8 years it would be neccessary evil deal. Krug at 4 years and 6.5 mil is more moveable as time goes on with retention or whatnot. Add in ridding of Hayes and getting 1st round pick makes it an ok move. Not a home run for sure but a solid double

Just an outsiders 2 cents opinion. Say the Flyers retain on Hayes, and they can only obtain Krug by flipping him to a contender with retention. That would only leave them with one retention slot and the need for a defenseman.

Maybe the Flyers are thinking of keeping Deangelo now, not use their last retention slot in the trade to Carolina, and let him take on the blue line minutes they intended for Krug.

Teams have three slots they can retain salary on annually. So Hayes would take up a slot for three seasons, TDA one season, and they'd have one more slot available.
