I think the NYR are trying to add speed, if anything. Not sure if signing 35 YO Lucic fits that criteria.

Another tidbit worth sharing with free agency less than a week away: I'm hearing that Tyler Motte is likely to test the UFA market. Door remains open for a #NYR return, but chances of getting a deal done before Saturday don't sound great.

burn another pick on him next deadline?

This off-season just keeps getting better. Can’t wait till Drury has to trade a 3rd round pick next year to get him

They’ll address the 4th line whether it’s internally, UFA, or trade(s) and they’ll do it early and economically because they have no other choice. Drury’s leash is certainly getting shorter and the plan can’t be to overpay or wait for Motte.

The problem with Motte is he’s strictly a 4th line player, and we can’t afford to give 4th liners 2 million bucks right now. Especially if they still have Goodrow on the team. Like it’s one or the other out of the two of them

No speed, what does he bring besides the goon presence?

Does losing Motte really hurt all that much, though? He was next to invisible like everyone else in the NJD series. I think some fans get attached to the Motte that had a solid run his first go around here (and rightfully so, he was great then). Sure, he is a solid role player, but I'd let some kids compete for that spot or like TJ mentioned throw that money towards someone like Wheeler.

I agree. But idk how. Buyout is the most likely and is that a good idea? We gain 200k for two years tho, so that’s a thing. Small one, but still could be a difference maker somewhere else (that extra 200k)

I just don’t see a trade likely unless you attach a pick

Trouba buyout is actually the best option to open up money but they would never

It creates like 5-6 million right away, plus would allow them to get someone with more speed back there. It will never happen but man I would love to see it lol

I’ve posted this before but Goodrows buyout isn’t a killer. One year (26/27 season) is it truly penal, with a 3.6 cap hit. But the rest of it other than that is 1.258. Gaining 200k the next two seasons

By the 26-27 season we may all be dead anyway (nukes and crazy world leaders)

Im gonna stick to my guns and say we make a deal with the Kraken.

Then I hope we sign Hathaway, Bjugstad and Nosek.

Looking at the buyout. As much as I hate it, it gives us the money we need when we need it.

Yea exactly. Panarin is off the books the year it hits 3.6, so it could be a non factor really. The cap will be higher too by then

Yes, because you guys dont read what I write.

If Chytil is going to be the 2C, I firmly believe that Trochek has to be the RW on that line so that he can take the faceoffs.

You guys keep talking about moving Chytil to RW, when you dont have to since Trochek plays RW too.

I could definitely see two new lower end FAs, and no trades. Boring but I don’t think it’s as bad as it seems where we need to something drastic. I’d trade Panarin but that’s just seems to be impossible. We had an unfortunate end to the season. Last year was great and overachieving, this year was great til the playoffs started and all things considered, it was underachieving. Can’t have a good year every year, I don’t see any reason to panic (by making dumb trades) Just get faster, bigger and a bit tougher and go to battle again. They still have plenty of youth and good players to build on.

They just need to figure out how to beat NJ now. That’s the most pressing thing to do imo

Sorry maybe I should’ve said “2 4th line centers, one of which will have to play on the 3rd line?”

Hathaway is nice but he can’t be a 3rd liner. That’s why I see Wheeler a better fit. He’s got more offense in him, he had a good season. I feel like Bjugstad is gonna get too much for us, close to 4 mill by someone. He’ll be the guy this summer we all say what?? How much? Just a gut feeling

Perry is possible too (much to the chagrin of many )

And who are you putting on the top pairing or what FA are you adding there?
