Yeah agree. Powers mentioned a magic number of $10M to get to the floor. With Hall's 6M and Foligno's 4M, the Hawks have reached it.
- Popsghostly

With Kurashev (re-signing pending) and Bedard added to the fold, the Hawks will just barely be above it, but they still need to add a bit more salary in order to be comfortably above the floor once they inevitably sell at the deadline again.

I'd expect one bottom-six addition and one cap dump forward to round out the roster.

Fingers crossed, hoping to see a similar situation in a salary dump to move up 8-15 spots in tomorrow's draft

Don't know how true it is but i read on Twitter Krug doesn't want to move because he has 2 young kids and feels a part of the community.

Sounds like the deal is dead, we'll see.

Yep. I've accepted the fact that it very likely won't be moving up from 19, but think there's a good chance it's pick #35 (or hopefully #44) that allows us to move into the back of the first. Having 4 picks in the top-35 would be phenomenal in this class.

Also sounds like Montreal can't match what the Kings are offering?

Really curious to see if this was a smokescreen or PLD signs with the Kings and how much.

Does anyone else think KD acquires draft picks in the early rounds of the 2025 draft or even the early rounds of 2026. If so that would indicate to me that KD understands he has a long road ahead of him and has to be patient.
- -Doh-

I keep thinking that KD wants 6 of the top 100 picks in every draft for a while, gives you more chances to find the players you want. He has that next year, needs one more in 2025 and two more in 2026.

Foligno is in for this year, and with half retained maybe gets you a 2025 3rd, so he has the 2-2-2 in the first 3 rounds then. Hall goes next year and gets a 2026 #1 or #2. Maybe D!ckinson or someone gets you a 2026 #3 and 2026 also has 6 picks in the top 100.

After that there is not much to trade so maybe 2027 will be different.

What does a healthy Tyler Johnson get you? I personally thought he looked better and better as the season went on.

I can see them having a cap hit of around 70M at the start of the season. They will be 13M under the cap and accruing cap space all the way to the deadline. KD will be fielding calls at the TDL to take on some cap dumps.

Per Darren Dreger twitter.

Indications are the Montreal Canadiens have tried to get back into the mix for Pierre-Luc Dubois, but haven’t been able to gain traction. Montreal has “future” assets, but Wpg needs NHL ready players. LA has that and it appears PLD prefers the LA option. Developing story.

I think the point of the exec's question was to find out how well he takes instruction. Will he listen and do what is suggested/told. How much of a team player is he? Analize the question and it is not so far-fetched. Hey Wiz, hope you are resting up for tomorrow night!

In my experience questions like these are set ups for follow up questions. This one sets the baseline and the following questions “measure” consistency and whether or not you were truthful in your initial answer. They also point to certain personality traits that the team may be looking for. It is a little bit more how you answer the question than the answer itself.

I get that the money with the Hawks is likely the best he’ll get on the market, but it says something that he was set to be a UFA and decided to sign with the Hawks. Now I’m more interested to see what he brings to the team.

The conversation with KD went something like "I'll get you money and to the right contender at the TDL if you help me out now." Foligno couldn't turn that deal down.

A solid first couple of moves to get Bedard some immediate help and to reach the floor.

We’ve been waiting ALL year since last draft for this hawks fans. Feels like Christmas!!!
Oh and this team will actually be bearable to watch again.

Will be rooting for any pick to be a D man before 19.

Let’s go KD

Trading for his rights was a clever substitute for a draft pick sweetener, which is something that Boston couldn't afford to give up. The Hawks will likely get that draft pick at the deadline. Foligno will have a higher profile role here than he would on a contender, so that could net a better return than the standard sweetener would have been.

Where does Foligno slot on this team as it stands?

KD is making some real smart moves. I like how he’s setting himself up for a subsequent deal, almost like he’s playing chess, thinking a few moves ahead. Plus all his contracts of veteran players should expire before year three, when he has to sign Bedard’s next deal. Now can he talk Bedard and the players he identifies as his core to sign hometown deals in the future so there’s money available to sign a good supporting cast?

I’d like to see them get another forward on a two or three year deal, maybe JT Compher, Domi, or Garland, or somebody of that ilk. They still won’t make the playoffs and will get a decent pick in ‘24(probably around 10th overall). If they really want a top five pick, then sign C Jones and play him 20 minutes a night.
Edit- TBH, I’m a huge Toews fan and if healthy I’d love to sign him for a couple of years and have him retire as a Hawk.
