I could see KD trading a 2023 second round pick for a 2024 or 2025 second round pick plus a mid-round pick. Likely pick 51 or 55 would be the one on the move.

The way I see the Hawk draft harvest is it already includes the best possible outcome in an amateur draft...a true competitor and the most positive outcome.

I look at the fact that they 99, 93, 67, 55, 51, 44, 35 and I see a reason to
select a goalie,
select a college bound defender (or ASP)....
Although I may almost willing to wager that #19 is not a goalie (Hrabel) or a defender, I could see the reasoning to get the best at #19.

How do I ignore Barlow, Sale, Wood, Honzek?, I honestly think they are all off the board.

Even @ #35 I can justify a goalie selection.

All the rest 44, 51, 55, 67...you watch and see if you top goalie is gone, and you decide where you plan to grab the next.
With three picks before #44, do the red wings get the second one?

I am just saying.

A goalie in one of the 35, 44, 51, 55 slotting.
then big and little forwards, with 67, 93, and 99 as best players. (In past drafts you saw there Blues pull Joel Edmundson at #46, Colton Parayko 86th overall, Calgary taking Brett Kulak #105.
My thinking is IF you want an offensive generating defender, you take him even as early as #35 if it is the just under six foot Axel Sandin Pelikka.

And I am happy if any of these are available at #35:
Calum Ritchie
Otto Stenberg
David Edstrom
Kasper Halttunen
Ethan Gauthier
Charlie Stramel
Anton Wahlberg
Andrew Cristall
Carey Terrance
Nico Myatovic
Jesse Kiiskinen

That is enough names to extend to #44.

Paranoia set in after Montreal traded those two picks to the Avs, with me thinking they will be eyeing Kasper Halttunen & Anton Wahlberg in their "re-tool."

The fun will be over Thursday afternoon when the second round begins...

Humble kid. I still find it surreal the Hawks won the lottery.

Looks like he has his driver's license. He'll be starring in those Chicagoland Chevrolet Dealers ads on NBCSportsChicago in a few months.

Tomorrow, when Davidson calls Connor Bedard’s name do they have the traditional number to represent the year, 23, or will it be 98?
- paulr

I hope KD quintuple checks the name on the card before he turns it in.

Maybe Ritchie is an option after all? Last year and early this season he looked really good. I didn’t know he was injured from the first game of the season. Explains allot. I imagine it’s difficult for scouts to assess him considering he was unable to show his best. If nothing else you have to give him credit for showing up each night, even if he was ineffective because of his injury.

I’d be ok with a goalie in the 2nd round but preferably not at #35 and preferably a prospect in Europe or US college to allow for more time for development.

Craig Button has Ritchie going to Seattle at #20. And he has 7 Dmen being picked in Round 1.

Going to be some good forwards available in Round 2

Assume you mean Mississauga Steelheads - no havent been there.

I live downtown Burlington so Hamilton Bulldogs are much closer for me - 15 minute drive but the rink is being renovated now so team is going to Brantford for a couple years. Went to a bunch of Bulldog games when they had that team that went to the Memorial Cup in 2018.

I took it more like I won't be bullied into overpaying and if these are the picks I have at the end of the day, so be it.
- Elbows15

I’m sure he’ll do what’s best for the team, I’m okay either way. Although if he trades a 2nd round pick, it better be a good young player coming back.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see KD acquire another centre, via trade or free agency, to play behind Bedard so AA can move to the wing.

They will have the standard jersey for him. I think its was number 1 because they were advertising his jersey or whatever number they usually use. It won't be 98
- Elbows15

I was wondering the same thing.

I am going to guess 98 with his name on it, b/c they know they cannot get beat to his selection.

I think KK breaks the regular season with the team so think everyone on the left side gets pushed down a slot, but think that looks pretty accurate to me.

Other thoughts: Johnson - Richardinson - Raddysh was the top line combo all year analytically speaking, so would like to see them as a third line but realize the Hawks probably don’t have a better fit on the Hall-Bedard line than Raddysh unless they acquire another RW’er (likely via cap dump).

Ideally need another C to allow AA to slide over to wing (maybe there’s still a chance for Domi).

I see Johnson on 2nd line and Kurashev on line 3.

Think we see at least 1 “vet” added to the forward mix

Speaking of numbers…what will Hall and Foligno wear?

I’ll speculate that Hall goes with #6 which frees up #71 for Foligno.

Looking at the Kings cap situation after the PLD deal, they've got ~$4.5m in cap space and still need to add two defenders, a starting goalie, and would still only have 19 players under contract.

I think Arvidsson, who's been rumored to be on the chopping block, would make a lot of sense for the Hawks as a one-year rental. Quite affordable at $4.25m and would provide offense from the RW, where besides Raddysh we are quite thin.

Easy TDL candidate who provides more offense on the wings and would slot in nicely alongside Reichel and AA on that second line.

Top 6 - Hall, Bedard, Raddysh, AA, Reichel, T.Johnson
Bottom 6 - Kurashev, D!ckinson, Anderson, Katchouk, Guttman and then pick one from Entwistle, R. Johnson, Blackwell
From last year's play I would choose Kaiser over Phillips.
I would like them to sign a forward that could play in front of the net on the PP. Bedard, Reichel, Hall, Seth Jones and _______? Not a bad PP unit.
I can see KD acquiring one more top 6 forward. There will be a bunch of the top free agents signed early in July. But there is always one or two that fall through the cracks for whatever reason (maybe coming off an injury). They eventually sign a short term low dollar contract and turn out to be a real bargain. Maybe flip them at the TDL.

Might want to pick up an NHL caliber Defenseman for Bedard to practice against.

Would be a great pick-up. Could put him on line 1 to surround Bedard with vets. Move Raddysh to line 2 where he had chemistry last year w/reichel. LA does not have much draft capital but would gladly take their 2nd this year (54) + Arvidsson for Dallas’s 3rd (93)

There’s one thing to be sure of with this hawks team…it’s going to be a very entertaining team!! Which is going to be fun because even last years team was pretty entertaining in itself. Given the lineup questions, this is how I honestly see it lined up as…not today’s lineup!!

Hall—Bedard—Raddysh
Compher—Johnson—AA
Or
Johnson—Barbashev—AA
Foligno—Kurashev—Reichel
Katchouk—Guttman—Di*kinson
Entwhistle/Anderson

Kevin K—S Jones
Phillips—Murphy
Vlasic—Zaitsev

They'll have one for him soon enough though - like for the press conference.

Welcome, fellow faithful, to the next era of Blackhawks Hockey ... still under construction - but the structure is coming along quite nicely.

-Not probably a major prediction but I imagine the Hall trade put paid to Friedman's Tarasenko talk - same purpose - but I guess if he were interested in a short term prove it deal, that could be flip-able for assets at the TDL -they you have to consider it. The 'Domi' model. The 'Fleury' model is where you find a team so overly desperate that they just give you a tradable commodity for any contract.

Rupp and Torchetti both saying last night that Bedard centering Hall and the speed of AA would be ideal.
