What's a good contract for Nick Foligno? Can't be too long, he's 35. Had a pretty good year last year but who wouldn't playing on the B's. |

I mean, Hall will be good for Bedard, just surprised the Hawks didn't make Boston pay to dump him. - BINGO!
They gave up nothing for him....Hall can still play.
Might want to worry about who's scoring for Carolina this year, most notably come playoff time...... |

KD is probably more concerned with length vs. AAV.
Maybe 1 year @ $3 million?

I would too...until I run into deep teams who can shut my 1-2 lines down and then I'm f'd. |

Are the Hawks allowed to flip Hall before the season starts - as someone suggested 50% retained for the 14th pick? not sure of the rules |

Just under 10 million left to spend to get to the cap floor now, I mean this is a great move IMO. What I also like is now if they look to move Hall retaining half to bring him down to 3 million is huge. - Zach Jarom
More like 3M to get to the floor after accounting for Bedard, Reichel, Soderblom, 2 of Vlasic/Phillips/Kaiser/Roos and Kurashev.
KD could spend into the upper 60's. Wouldn't rule out Domi or Compher.
And KD acquired Hall to play with 98. Maybe he'll be traded at the 2025 TDL.

I don't think Boston has much to offer other then roster players. Most of their picks are late rounders

I have no idea on their prospect pool. |

They also sound, per reports/team release, they are going to attempt to sign Foligno. Be very curious if that happens and how he and S Jones get along after spending 4+ years together in Columbus. |

I’m guessing KD wants Hall and Foligno on the team for the short term. Maybe one or both are flipped at the TDL but I think he’d like veteran presence for the season. |

Sounds that way on Foligno. Makes sense.
Be very curious if he adds a C during UFA to play between Hall and Bedard. Leaves Reichel, Kurashev, Raddysh, AA, Johnson as guys trying to fill in remainder of top 6.
If reports are true and then don't resign C Jones, and let Englund walk....leaves 2-3 spots for kids to fill in. Jones, Murphy, Tinordi, and Zaitsev....
If the board gets their wish and they do sign Domi, I just hope the term is 3 years max, if not 2 years. Don't want them getting with long term deals when Bedard needs to cash in outside of Jones. |

Very true, I think the point i was looking to make was that getting to the floor isnt going to be as hard as people were thinking earlier. (I could have worded my initial response better) I much rather bring Domi back on an Athanasiou type deal than Compher but at this point gotta just trust what KD is doing.

I dont get the feeling theres going to be a lot of term given out any time soon. I think the plan is get to Bedards first extension, get him locked down and then make the big boy moves. By then you will also have Nazar and Korchinski ready to make the jump if they havent already so the new core will be ready to be built around.

Is there a possibility that they trade Hall to move up in the draft? Maybe Hall and a second for a third first round pick? |

100% agreed. He just added a large piece to help Bedard's development and 2 savvy veterans. The Jones deal is what it is, but if he can avoid having guys signed past 3 years outside of him.....what flexibility he will have when some of these prospects start to earn their in the lineup on a nightly basis.
Still looking at Cap friendly you see the Jake Muzzins and Josh Bailey's of the world and those scream like targets TOR and NYI want to dump for cap relief. Islanders have almost all their picks.....TOR not so much. |

Full trade, per sources:
To #NHLBruins: Rights to RFAs Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula.
To #Blackhawks: Taylor Hall, rights to UFA Nick Foligno.
No salary retained by Boston, this represents a pure salary dump to clear $6 million off Bruins' books. - DarthKane
Good trade, and it made a little room on dee.
Compher should be next.
Bruins get room for Tyler Bertuzzi and Garnet Hathaway, all good.
Or purses Hanafin?
Since you all have been having so much fun with the 2023 Draft list, I thought you might like to beginning looking at the possible first three rounds of 2024 before someone else claims they were first.
No one else has one up, so give me prop for throwing this up:

Doesn't make Sense , the hawks could have refused to sign this guys , You take on Hall and his Contract and no prospect or draft pick . Why not just pay the salary of one of the bruins players |

Agreed......I don't see them flipping Hall immediately for a mid 1st round pick. Everyone here agreed/debated for months Bedard will need skill around him. Hall is immediately the best option on the roster TODAY. Once you get a legit top line and can backfill from there and stop having guys playing over their skis.
Your point on some of these d Kids....man if somebody knocks for Murphy why not retain 2 million and ship off and get future assets? Jones is 100% unmoveable without retaining money. I would think Murphy would be more coveted than Zaitsev. Even if you dealt Murphy you could find a veteran to play 2nd pairing minutes on a 1-2 year deal. This team isnt going to contend this year....and my willigness to deal murphy is because
1. I think he's vastly overrated for whatever it is he "does well"
2. With Vegas winning with a larger D group, makes some GMs look around.
3. You then have 2 salaries retained on 2 D men you sold as high as you could have. Murphy has some injury concerns. Is say a guy like Shattenkirk or Ian cole plus a 3rd for Murrphy and 50% retained a better deal for this team long term? Sign either of those guys, or another guy who is coming off an injury who needs exposure to a 1-2 year deal and be done with it?

taylor Hall is still a good player.
Bruins are praying Mitchell's old Denver coach can ignite him and Regula?
What were you expecting?
hawks get hall, Bruins 1st, and give up a 7th? |

Ya this just doesn't seem painful enough for the Bruins. At least squeeze them for something like a 2nd round pick next year or beyond. - RickJ
I was thinking the same thing. ...... The Athletic had four writers chime in on the deal, 3 gave the Hawks an A and one a B. .... A copy and paste of one paragraph that many here have been touting since they won the lottery sums it up.
"Without this trade, the Blackhawks’ situation looked like one of the absolute worst a top pick has entered in a long time. It’s never a good plan to feed the future of the franchise to the wolves with little support and this trade gives Bedard a lifeline. |

Thanks for the 2024 list, Wiz. Interesting to see Tij Iginla at 25, I was wondering where he would be rated. He was improving all last year so he's got a good chance to break out next season.
Hoping there is some improvement this season and the Blackhawks are picking at 8 or so next year instead of top 3. - totem
The first two rounds are as close to my early ranking as I can do...the third rounders are names at this point and you know once it is November every slot will change except for the top two.
WHY do the Hawks take Taylor Hall without incentives?
Because he was a first overall, so he can relate hard to Bedard.
He can still score some. He uses his size.
He can get injured and be back at the deadline to trade and eat part of the Cap for a new team.
He's better at hockey that they left wingers here.

Props for the 2024 mock draft. I predict next year the Hawks will have the 5th worst record, but move up to 2 in the lottery.

Have to think an UFA C is on Davidsons radar. Question is how desperate will be to "get his man" Over pay? Give him longer terms? Trade protection? Sometimes these crappier teams have to anty up more to attract a guy. |

Can T Johnson still play center. They plan on using AA as a center this year. Bedard, AA, T. Johnson, R. Johnson. Or put Kurashev at center. |
