That is an old baseball and hockey axiom. It may have been appropriate for football and basketball too. However, so much zone and freak athletic ability - like Urlacher for Bears in his heyday just to give an example we all can identify - so it is more representative in baseball and hockey

It is not the only way or necessarily the best way to draft; it is thought sensible and a good idea. I bet I can come up with an interesting corollary and it wouldn’t be really a bad approach

The Bruins had the benefit of Chara size, reach and effectiveness for many years. He was hard to play against. Some players may even have deliberately chosen to attack against the Bruins on the opposite side. After Chara left beantown the fans, the players and the coach all must have really missed Chara.

You could have said that Chara had a lot to do with their success. When Chara left a part of their identity surely seemed to be missing

If the Bruins choose to play the same old same old, then the GM might have felt like he had to get a Chara clone

Of course the Bruins could win without Chara. His replacement has his own strength in his style.

Interestingly enough Bob Murray as GM had a penchant to draft a few hard nosed forwards and puck moving dmen seemingly each draft

And finally let us note that in a league where copying is sometimes adulated, from year - to -year it has not been a carbon copy chiseled in stone who wins the Cup plays the same way as the previous year’s best team

The dynamics in the game in sports too will cause a GZm to draft differently year to year. Let us not overlook the changes in roster composition due to injuries, salary cap, and old age of a player(s) may cause a team to draft differently

I know the Chicago fan base cries for a second genuine offensive center for years yet we won at least the last two Cuos being perceived as weak at the depth at the center I’ve position.

So all that and I will say again your scout’s draft strategy is a good idea but not necessarily written in stone the only best way to go about business

Funny thing about Chara. The Hawks deliberately dumped the puck to his side and forechecked him hard in the final because they didn't think he was nimble enough to quickly transition the puck. Seemed to work well enough!!

Kurashev
- LFS

Doesn’t it seem that Kurashev had better make a niche for himself, better improve or become more valuable in his role

ELSE

There is a slew of forwards who will start filtering through primarily at Rockford as apprenticeship

And although each is not exactly the same as Kurashev

All these drafted - particularly KD choices - could push Kurashev out of a job or in a platoon or shuffle in and out of lineup

Kurashev needs to become better and starting this season

An energy guy, who I saw a few times is Easton Cowen of the London Knights. Not a big guy at 5’10 170 but he doesn’t back down from anyone . Apparently he started to find a bit of a scoring touch late into the season and into the playoffs. I remember him as a quick skater who engaged in puck battles, was a pest in front of the net and was at the center of after whistle scrums and threw his body around with no concern about who he was hitting. Reminded me of a certain number 65.

I dreamt last night of big, huge, heavily muscled, manly, swarthy hockey players with big feet. I awoke feeling all tingly and ummm well ….. you know.

Why are people so hell bent on immediately trading Hall? Don't the Hawks need to 1) Ice a team, and 2) have some actual NHL forwards to play with the kids?

Hall and Foligno are precisely the kind of players I would think the Hawks wand to sign. Good solid vets that have been around and know about playing 200'.

- Chunk

I don't think the intention is to FLIP him right away. I think they got him to add some needed veteran and skill to the Top 6.

Now, he would be a fool NOT to listen to offers from other teams that would offer up a nice package for a 3 million Hall....still I think the plan is to keep Hall at least until the deadline, then see what the offers are like.

The Hawks NEED to have at least a little quality around Bedard, just to let him experience some success. Bedard and Hall on a Power Play is a pretty decent start.

I do not know if we have the right mix by adding a top Dman in lieu of Domi or anyone else. I am thinking the second line would not be a good offensive line particularly if Foligno and Hall skate with Bedard

We remain in a rebuild with our ‘24 #1 plus five promising young dmen: Kaiser, Phillips here this season

DeMastro, Korchinski Allen some point in time after next season

Would we want to/would Florida accept our #19 and one of our second round picks for Forsling

S Jones and Forsling in top two pairs
If this happens, pray one or both Kaiser Phillips can hold down a spot on the blue line so that we might trade Murphy + ? To upgrade our second forward line

C Jones is who knows maybe still here. Engeland too and Tinordi can replace kids on defense if they are not ready

Does Florida try keep Forsling? Salary cap problems?

The only way KD trades #19 is if it is for a package that includes a higher draft choice coming back. Period, full stop

With all the left handed dmen in the system, i don't see them trading for Forsling.

Ok, sure LA Hawk
You are probably correct
But I don’t think it is a bad idea what I suggested
Just not the path KD is going to take

Adding a dman
And Forsling appears legitimate NOW
Provides a better blue line crew
And a better team for rookies to break in on that same back line

If I was the Florida GM
Trying to keep the roster intact
With Bob’s big pact
Sounds like a big headache

I posted the idea without thoroughly looking at all the considerations - an example you just gave

Forsling isn’t coming here.

But maybe it could work in a similar scenarios with a different team

As you say Hawks are loaded with young LHD, a year or two or three away. Why add a veteran LD to the mix at the cost of the 19th OA and a 2nd when those picks can shore up the lack of forward depth in the system or draft a RD prospect. Play the kids on defense. Before you know it, they'll no longer be exempt from waivers and you may as well find out what they have to offer.

I think I read where the Hawks are going to let Englund walk and it's likely Caleb isn't being qualified. That adds to my feeling the Hawks are opening up slots for the younger guys.

Been there done that. Before Forsling broke his wrist he could really bring it from the blueline. Reminded me a bit of Doug Wilson. But since the break not so much. They need the next Forsling, not this one.

You’re right; I retract the Forsling idea. But it could be a scenario for another team without the dmen prospects we have

The only scenario where KD trades pick #19 besides for another pick, is if a young 21-22 year old stud was coming back, and no team is going to trade such a player for that pick.
