I get we cannot win it every other year like when I was a kid, but the past 10 years have been pretty depressing. especially for people my age I suppose. when you are young and don't know better... I guess you get used to it.

I get that the 60s, 70s were glorious, but how were the Bergevin years more depressing than the Koivu era for example? I don't get it.

you are right, these were also pretty dark days, but we would make the playoffs more regularly if I remember well. not winning anything, but we were there. the last decade... nothing glorious about it. we're entering Leafs territory tbh.

ok. at this point I'm not even trying to convince you otherwise, I'm just trying to understand why you and a few people in here see things this way. personally I feel I've watched some way more significant and exciting hockey games during those years than before that, and to you it's as though getting to the final was nothing.

don't think I'll ever get it, but at least I'll have tried.

they went to the final because of covid Pat. under normal circonstances they don't make the playoffs. again. yes it was fun, best St-Jean ever! but it was all smoke and mirrors. proof is in the pudding, we finished bottom 5 since then.

oh whatever, they still beat all those teams fair and square, basically against all odds. this argument makes no (frank)ing sense to me, sorry.

and they finished in the bottom after... well of course they did, losing Weber and Price kinda had an impact on things

I'll make a non fun prediction. I say Will Smith is gone when it's the Habs' turn to speak, they'll swap their pick a few ranks back (Washington seems like a realistic trade partner) to avoid Michkov and pick Leonard or Reinbacher

Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

- stinger67

At this point, with our sudden influx of centers that were impossible to obtain for the last 10 years or so…..I would love for them to go with Leonard ! We need that type of player and someone that can raise their game and be like Matthew T from the Panthers!!

Dude….you need context. You’re picking fly poop out of the pepper at this point man.

You’ve never seen this team truly competitive.

He didn't get lucky but he did went all-in with no long-term plan in a desperate attempt to save his neck

your question is biased, because you're assuming PLD and his agent "used" MTL as leverage to get that deal in LA... it's pretty clear that the habs didn't have the equivalent to offer in terms of NHL-ready players, so I'm not sure how that really helped seal the deal.

Newhook has tons of speed, he should fit in nicely with what they are building. Hopefully he can develop with more ice-time, as he should get a bigger role than what he had in Colorado.

Yes, the price was steep and its a gamble...but they have been drafting a lot of guys in the last few seasons. With the contracts limit, you can't sign them all.

- stinger67

Agreed 100% ... this is very similar to Dach's situation last year.

The kid is fast, talented and in the right age group for what we are building, he has the tools to potentially get to another level under St-Louis' coaching style.
Un beau risque à mon avis.

Also, any guy we'd have drafted at 31 wouldn't have been with the team until a few years from now (or if he would ever make the NHL).

I'm relieved Hugo didn't trade the farm for Dubois, he's not worth what the Kings paid for him. How long before he asks for a trade again.

Hugo are not into "seat of your pants" managing, they have a rebuild plan and they are sticking to it.
