your question is biased, because you're assuming PLD and his agent "used" MTL as leverage to get that deal in LA... it's pretty clear that the habs didn't have the equivalent to offer in terms of NHL-ready players, so I'm not sure how that really helped seal the deal.
- Pat1993

You guys easily have the equivalent of their offer. Whether they're in the position to do it is another matter. PLD's agent is a notorious douche, I wouldn't put it past him to have always wanted to go to the beach.

that still doesn't explain how they could've used the habs as leverage, Hughes couldn't "easily" offer the jets the same kind of return... this doesn't make any sense.

also, PLD signed in LA because his agent wanted to go to the beach? wtf man

I predict David Reinbacher ... a right handed D with nice size is just what the doctor ordered.

He'd be an excellent choice if we pass on the remaining "big 5".

If the Flames retain 30% of his salary, sure.

That would be a great deal. I doubt they would retain $$ for that long.

Yeah it's not happening.

I feel for the guy though, got traded from Florida when the team started winning, signs long term with a team that wants to compete for the cup, every other significant player tell management they want to leave.

Talk about bad luck.

Of course, the 10M he gets every year help I guess.

if Michkov is available at 5 and the habs still don't pick him, I'll assume it's because they acquired information that made them have second thoughts about him, whether it's related to the complexity of his situation in Russia, or to him personally as a hockey player and teammate.

Depends on the level of risk Hugo are willing to take with a Russian player.
We'll know in a few hours.
