if Michkov is available at 5 and the habs still don't pick him, I'll assume it's because they acquired information that made them have second thoughts about him, whether it's related to the complexity of his situation in Russia, or to him personally as a hockey player and teammate.
- Pat1993

Yes, and I'll support their decision.

If we pass on Michkov but end up with a top pair RHD in Reinbacher, I won't even care if Michkov ends up being a success.

We just can't afford to pick a subpar player while a potential superstar was available.

HB says Huberdeau is "very much in play", and that CGY are talking Arizona...
- Pat1993

And the bad luck continues.

Doesn't he have a NMC?

Depends on the level of risk Hugo are willing to take with a Russian player.
We'll know in a few hours.

- Garfield512

I know, but they say the drop in talent is after 5. they also say Michkov is the most talented one after Bedard. risky or not... if he's there at 5...

Reinbacher is a very "meh" selection for me, considering there seems to be more depth at the forward position in this draft, and that the habs definitely need to add fire power up front. I get that they also need a right-handed Dman, but that sounds like drafting by need, and not the best player available...

sweet

I feel for CGY though, I don't particularly hate them, and I do usually want to see canadian teams do well. WPG is in the same kind of situation as well.

Wingers are a dime a dozen but stud right handed D's are a very valuable commodity and very hard to get through trades.

Agreed 100% ... this is very similar to Dach's situation last year.

The kid is fast, talented and in the right age group for what we are building, he has the tools to potentially get to another level under St-Louis' coaching style.
Un beau risque à mon avis.

Also, any guy we'd have drafted at 31 wouldn't have been with the team until a few years from now (or if he would ever make the NHL).

-----------------------------

I'm relieved Hugo didn't trade the farm for Dubois, he's not worth what the Kings paid for him. How long before he asks for a trade again.

Hugo are not into "seat of your pants" managing, they have a rebuild plan and they are sticking to it.

- Garfield512

I am glad the Habs did not make a trade like that for PLD, but I am not 100% convinced he is not worth those assets to the Kings. From a Habs perspective, it would not make sense. From a Kings perspective, they are getting over the hump and ready to compete now..

This is the kind of trade the Habs should be making in 3-4-5 years to fill out that one obvious weakness on the team, with hopefully an abundance of young NHL talent to spare.

They are not there yet.

that still doesn't explain how they could've used the habs as leverage, Hughes couldn't "easily" offer the jets the same kind of return... this doesn't make any sense.

also, PLD signed in LA because his agent wanted to go to the beach? wtf man

- Pat1993

PLD wanted to go to the beach.

Vilardi/Iafallo/Kupari is basically Dach/Dvorak/Mesar

Leonard is probably my darkhorse, still think they trade if the Russian is there.

or draft him, and then trade him to get a pick lower, if the guy they want is there. eliminates the risk. pick him and trade him to WASH at 8th.

Iafallo has more potential than Dvorak. Mesar/Kupari are a wash I agree.

Vilardi is more proven but I think Dach has a higher ceiling. Bottom line, Habs needed to give up a cost controlled Dach for Dubois and didn't want to do that.

I agree with them.
