I’m actually Strathroy not Mt. Brydges but that’s where my gf is from
And the people complaining about this pick due to his size seem to think the leafs see him in the NHL next year for some crazy reason. - Dozzer
Nope. Dont like the pick because we need size, he aint it. We need D and C, he is a small winger. He is at best a 3-4year away "project" for a 1st round pick.
Reminds me of that waste of a 1st rd pick of Burke's.
MAYBE he pans out but this is a bit meh. |

Quick Twitter lookup the buzz was this kid was getting picked earlier than public rankings.
I don’t know anything about anybody past the top 3 so I don’t care.
Hope he has a good season next year. |

Well? A wasted evening. Hype machine will engage. We might see him in 4 years, after going to the Marlies in 2 years. Should have dealt the pick. - PrinceLH
Right?
I feel like I watched NASCAR and no one crashed.

This is the kind of pick you get when it's a late 1st rounder and you have no more picks until the 5th round because the cupboards are barren. 🤷
Having said that, trading down would have been nice but I'm thinking there was no takers.
Oh wellz.

Who knows how this kids career pans out. I will say I hate the dart throw dive in round 1, just take the BPA and run with it.
I will preface this by saying there's an incredibly minor flock of moves to rate Treliving on and this is nothing more than my takeaway to date.
But I can't help but feel from Kampf signing to that pick, people kicked and screamed for a new GM so hard and now we're in the initial phases of watching this guy (frank) the team back to the Horachek age.
I can't not call this kid Easton Fection in my head now. |

I watched Easton live quite a bit this year. Not ideal in the 1st but he did get better as the year went on. He was great in their playoff run, works hard and is fiesty. |

For the love of sweet (frank).
Pronman had him ranked 95. He is the only one who ranked the kid. I'll give away the $1 content here:
Background
Cowan's stock trended up as the season went along. A second-round pick in his OHL Draft, Cowan became an important all-situations forward for a top OHL team this season in London.
Analysis
Cowan is a quick and competitive winger. He plays with a lot of energy and courage, not shying from getting to the net or engaging in after-the-whistle activities. Cowan has good skills, and enough hockey sense to make you think he'll score as a pro, but whether there's enough pure offense in his game is a question, especially as a barely 5-foot-11 player. His scoring in the OHL postseason was encouraging though. - Monkeypunk
Smells like Kerfoot. |

New GM wasn't going to come in and tell the scouts to throw out everything they'd worked on all year. From a scouting department personnel point of view, this WAS a Dubas pick. - oldstyle
It does feel a lot like Treliving inherited the Dubas playbook so far except he might be worse at executing it... |

I am guessing the pick is all about the scouting team. Especially with his reaction when Elliotte asked him what he saw in Easton Cowan.

Yeah, guess GM's like how deep this draft is as much as it's been said. |

There's an outside chance that he's maybe a Darcy Tucker type? Same type of build. Got better as the year went on and did very well in the playoffs? I don't know. I'm grasping on this one.

If a pick isn’t top 10 expecting him to be immediate is expecting too much. |

Now I'm going to take the word quick out of that:

THAT ^^ is not Kerfoot at all.

Very early days.
Kampf's AAV is higher than I'd like but it's 4 years and is unprotected.
Hoping he moves on from Kerfoot. |

This is my thought.
I thought the Leafs would prioritize all of D, LW, and C over a RW. |

Oh I agree there. But c'mon. You got 100pt players, you got size and positionsl needs on the board. We take the 3/4th round guy? Thats a pretty off the board move there.
Its a wait and see but |

Missed the tier they plunked him into in that athletic article.

Yup. Hope he proves me wrong from here on out but initial impressions are not good for me. Just a gut shot, don't have a ton to base it on... But I hate that pick, I hate the Kampf contract. I see a guy trying to do what Dubas did just doing worse at it.
Good thing I don't know poop about (frank) so it doesn't matter. |
