How often does something like this ever work out? I feel like every time I hear this poop it never turns out. Hope they are right.

Last one I remember for the Leafs was Korshkov...

- Archaic

This point he is ours. Lets just hope scouts hit a homer and he turns out to be more Darcy Tucker and less Tyler Biggs.

All picks are scouting team picks. He’s been in job for a few weeks with much more important things to worry about than some late first rounder who no matter who it is is 2-3 years away.
- drexel

Then trade the pick. 🤷

Draft picks are currency and 1st rounders are your c-notes. You don't just sewer it cause who really cares more important fish to fry.

Barring trade yeah, not gonna be a real thriller tomorrow that is for sure. Next few drafts are gonna be snoozers unless we somehow recoup a few picks here and there but I doubt that since our window to go for it really is now.

So you must be happy they drafted a feisty kid. Nice.
- drexel
You can get all kinds of feisty kids....but can they play in the most talent laden and toughest sports league in the World? I remember when the Leafs took 3 players in the first round from the Belleville Bulls. All three never turned into much. I think Rob Pearson was the best of the three, and he lasted about 3 years. The Leafs have been drafting pansy's for 2 decades now. They wouldn't know a heart and soul guy if he kissed them on their beer breath beaks.

The thing I don't get here is this kid was a later round small winger. You have a 100pt season small 5'10 winger in Nadeau right there to take instead if you were going to do that. You have a 6'3 180lb C in Edstrom still on the board. A 6'0 180lb Dman in Lindstein still there, hell you have the small same size d man in Gulyayev too and both would have filled more of a need. And all projected before the kid we take.

I dunno... wait and see and hope this kid develops but man...

You know, I hope you're right....I just have little confidence in this scouting staff. It's easy to draft in the top 5 of the draft. Matthews is a generational goal scorer. Marner is a crafty passer. Nylander is a good scorer, when he's not taking off shifts. Tavares is consistent, but his speed and defensive abilities are waning. Rielly was a top 5 pick also. So who have they developed in the last 10 years from later draft picks? Lilijren at #16? Undersized defenseman that you can't trust in the playoffs? Hopefully, Matthew Knies, but he's untested in an NHL 82 game schedule. Not much came from the late 1st's and later round going forward. Knies is our last prospect, unless Robertson makes a miraculous turnaround. A couple of malnourished Finn's? Cupboards are now pretty bare. Just a couple of cans of beans and a moldy half loaf of garlic bread. Not many draft picks going forward for a couple of years.

*AHEM* 5'11.

That 170 is on an 18 year old kid. You can assume he gets up to around 190 by the time he's ready.

Average wingers are 6'1 / 200, so his size overall isn't that much of a concern. It's not like he's 5'5 / 140.

It's ultimately how off board it is. The fact that they thought this guy that the collective of all scouting had at best at the end of the second round is sort of shocking. A guy like Edstrom would have been a much better pick.

I assume you think you know. But what are other teams draft success consistently with late first rounders? (frank) lots screw up first overall.

OK, time to pass out from all of the underwhelming excitement. That's 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back. I should have went on a rampage at the Casino instead. Some Blackjack and slots would have been a better investment.

I did notice the savvy move by tree. “I’m gonna let the head scout make this pick”.

Love how every team's blog is updated on who they selected but ours is still stagnant like we just traded Jamal Mayers for Phaneuf.
