OK, time to pass out from all of the underwhelming excitement. That's 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back. I should have went on a rampage at the Casino instead. Some Blackjack and slots would have been a better investment.

I assume you think you know. But what are other teams draft success consistently with late first rounders? (frank) lots screw up first overall.
- drexel
Usually the screwed up 1st overalls are due to a bad draft year. Nail Yakapov is a great example. Morgan Rielly went 5th and was the best player in that draft. He only went later because of a serious knee injury in Junior. Edmonton really was the worst at drafting in the top 10. Sure, McDavid and Draisitel were coups, but there were a long list of fails in there also.

Love how every team's blog is updated on who they selected but ours is still stagnant like we just traded Jamal Mayers for Phaneuf.

I'm usually a Saturday Casino dude, so does that count? I remember watching game 4 of the Finals at a bar in the Casino a few weeks back.

I suppose Augello will have a hate fest tomorrow on the Convo. He's the master of the Leafs hate.

Fair enough. Depends on the casino. I only go after flames games to let the train thin out

+ it’s a Cowboys casino”. Those that know. Know.

I was up at Akwesasne, run by the Mohawks, near Massena, NY. I say up, because it's further north than the Casino in my home town, although it's in New York State. It's just south of Cornwall.

What are other teams success rates with massive reaches from Central scouting and consensus rankings? Asking for Mark Jankowski.

The thing I don't get here is this kid was a later round small winger. You have a 100pt season small 5'10 winger in Nadeau right there to take instead if you were going to do that. You have a 6'3 180lb C in Edstrom still on the board. A 6'0 180lb Dman in Lindstein still there, hell you have the small same size d man in Gulyayev too and both would have filled more of a need. And all projected before the kid we take.

I dunno... wait and see and hope this kid develops but man...

Bobby Mac had him in the 50's. Sounds like he was a late season 'climber'.

I like that he says he models his game after Kadri. Kadri-light.

Wait. Kadri was 167 lbs when drafted. Welcome to smurfville

You can never win with a guy who's 170 pounds at 18 years old. I would only draft 230 pound 18 year olds.

And then there's this scouting report ...

"There aren’t many knocks to Easton’s game. His size isn’t ideal, but he has grown this year. He supposedly has size 13 feet and will have time to physically develop and get stronger."

“He’s a sum-is-greater-than-the-parts guy for me... His work ethic is high end. He competes all over the ice. Moves pucks really well. Smart player. The skill overall isn’t going to blow anyone away. Skating has improved, and he’s grown. He’s 5’11” now. He was 5’8” not all that long ago. He’s a guy coaches will trust.”

- HP Scout, Mark Edwards, February 2023

Size 13's ...it's all good ....he'll be 6'2" by september.

Wishing all the best for the Leafs pick and clearly I hope it works out but that kid could have been had 20 spots later in the draft.

Reading the kids profile, and he sounds like a Zack Hyman sort.
Nothing wrong with a few of those.

Watching his highlights from London, he looks like he has a really quick and accurate release. Brings energy.

I like the pick. Looks like they got whom they wanted.

I don’t see why so butt hurt. No one here knows poop about any of these kids. You just see a list and assume it’s right. I’ll trust the guys that are actually paid to be scouts that see them play a lot rather than guys on here that think they know what they are doing.

You know, I hope you're right....I just have little confidence in this scouting staff. It's easy to draft in the top 5 of the draft. Matthews is a generational goal scorer. Marner is a crafty passer. Nylander is a good scorer, when he's not taking off shifts. Tavares is consistent, but his speed and defensive abilities are waning. Rielly was a top 5 pick also. So who have they developed in the last 10 years from later draft picks? Lilijren at #16? Undersized defenseman that you can't trust in the playoffs? Hopefully, Matthew Knies, but he's untested in an NHL 82 game schedule. Not much came from the late 1st's and later round going forward. Knies is our last prospect, unless Robertson makes a miraculous turnaround. A couple of malnourished Finn's? Cupboards are now pretty bare. Just a couple of cans of beans and a moldy half loaf of garlic bread. Not many draft picks going forward for a couple of years.

Apparently Kampf contract has a partial no trade clause? Why?
