The Montreal Canadiens went a combined 53-94-17 just to end up with Juraj Slafkovsky and David Reinbacher. Just think about it for a second. THE LAST 4 TOP 5 PICKS WEVE HAD HAVE BEEN GALCHENYUK, KOTKANIEMI, SLAFKOVSKY AND REINBACHER. WHY ARE WE SO ALLERGIC TO TALENT |

And then there's this scouting report ...
"There aren’t many knocks to Easton’s game. His size isn’t ideal, but he has grown this year. He supposedly has size 13 feet and will have time to physically develop and get stronger."
“He’s a sum-is-greater-than-the-parts guy for me... His work ethic is high end. He competes all over the ice. Moves pucks really well. Smart player. The skill overall isn’t going to blow anyone away. Skating has improved, and he’s grown. He’s 5’11” now. He was 5’8” not all that long ago. He’s a guy coaches will trust.”
- HP Scout, Mark Edwards, February 2023
Size 13's ...it's all good ....he'll be 6'2" by september. - The Law
I was similar when I was a kid.
5'8"ish but had big ass feet. I grew to 6' in grade 12. |

I love Easton Cowan as a pick coming from a strong development organization.
Absolutely hate where they picked him.
Completely stupid to have traded Sandin for a 1st round pick to pick a 3rd round player.
Shanahan should have been fired long ago but this is just getting worse by the week.
Even Dubas would have traded down and passed on two great players and get two 3rd round players for it instead of just one.

Nadeau was still there 🤷 - mr.sir
So was Gavin Brindley, Andrew Cristall, Gracyn Sawchyn, Jayden Perron, Lukas Dragicevic and Beau Akey.
There's a lot of quality, much higher ranked players still there especially if you consider how small Easton Cowan is.
They took a "safe" pick way too early because it's the only one they got until the 5th round so they didn't want it to bust. |

Apparently Kampf contract has a partial no trade clause? Why? - GreatGigInTheSky
10 teams in year 1-3.
Not sure why...pretty much anyone who signs more than 2 years gets one it seems |

I’ll go Easton Cowan
I trust the leaf scouts over the zero jr games that I’ve watched this year. |

why not trade down.
i dont care who they picked, since I have no clue who is who in this draft.
but that seems like an easy tap in for a trade down and get another pick

Honestly I would have taken David Edstrom. He'll probably never be flashy, but he could be a solid pick who has greater perceived trade value over the next couple of years even if you don't like his progress.
I will place some faith in Clark that Trelivnig said, "Who is the best player in your opinion available between now and the mid-third when we could acquire another pick?"
Unlike some, I do like what the scouting staff have done. I believe in a number of the prospects in the organization. We'll see! |

Talking heads said no action (trade up/downs) b/c the depth of the draft. Only slight differences in value between about 60 guys after the top 20 or so off the board.
Have we ever seen a draft like that? It was a snore fest. |

It's a little funny when you think about it ...
Leafs biggest criticisms are too much skill and a lack of intangibles and compete and never showing up in the playoffs.
This kid appears to be a response to that in that he's lacking skill (for where he was drafted) and his best attributes are high compete and intangibles and that he stepped up huge in the playoffs.
I'm not saying it was the right pick but the universe is clearly testing us. |

Grant approves...so im not sure how i feel about the pick

I think the Leafs made a great pick taking Easton "Cowboy" Cowan. Arguably the best forward in the OHL playoffs. A non-stop motor and smart. A gamer and winner. They need to add youthful playoff performers, and they got one.
i guess we will know in 5 years |

So the Leafs drafted a Good 'ol Canadian Farm boy
When the pandemic hit in 2020 and Cowan’s time in high school classes became limited, he began working on the farm from 6:30 in the morning till 9 at night during the busy farming seasons of spring and fall, driving a tractor beside the massive combine his father Chris uses to transfer crops. |

Nadeau spent the year with Penticton of the BCHL, where he posted excellent numbers. The right-handed forward scored 45 goals and 113 points in just 54 games, leading the league in both goals and points and earning Playoff MVP honours, on route to his second-straight BCHL championship. |
