BPA...some people think this is ONLY based on skills, that's not the case. Many factors are included in the evaluation of a player, BPA for a specific team is based on skills, how complete the player is, team needs, future projects (where they think the players development is at and how much progress can be expected), players play vs teams desired play (la game dans la game/MSTL), I am sure the team have many other factors they look at also. - Symba007
The player himself, beyond the skills on the ice (which you imply) - his approach to the game, effort, conditioning, etc...
And more importantly, like you said, how does he fit into the team's overall plan.
The thing is, we have not seen HuGo's plan in full yet (nor will we until it is done), just a piece here and a piece there.
Also, seems to me that the longest development path for players is usually goalie > D > FWD.
Maybe they think they have their G in place somewhere in the organization. Or maybe they have not seen someone to acquire that fits their long plan yet, and are not willing to make a reach in the draft for what is available.
They got their D all done.
And they have added some really nice pieces to their FWD grp (Slaf, Dach, Newhook).
Overall, this looks like something coming together.
People who are raging mad seem like the kind of people who want a quick fix and turn around right now (gimme a star player who is electric!), rather than patience and the proper build out.
That is my take anyways, others have different points of view, obviously. |

Reinbacher projected as a second pairing defenceman. If he overachieves(unlikely), it was not the right pick. Drafted again for need over BPA. |

That’s great and all, but Reinbacher shot uo the board out of nowhere and now somehow everyone is ok with it? I remember popping in here shortly after the season ended and a bunch of people on here were anyone but Reinbacher. Others posting watch them select Reinbacher. Well, they got him….
I am and forever will be a proponent of not selecting the guy who shoots up the rankings late in the game. There’s a reason they were lower in the first place. - Habsolute009
I haven't seen any of them play like most of us, I am not an expert. We base our opinion on a few draft lists we see from people not good enough to work for NHL teams.
Draft is based on projections mostly, what they have done so far, their progression, their floor vs ceiling. Teams have scouting departments filled with people whose job is to watch and analyze everything these players do and do projections.
Habs have a new Mgmt group led by HuGo, I give them the benefit of the doubt, they know WAY more then I do about these guys. Let's be honest, we all have an opinion every year for every pick but we know (frank) all about these young players. I hear the Habs and Arizona have been scouting Reinbacher all winter, they watched every game, practice, interviewed his coaches, teammates, talked to him many times. They own the decision now, up to them to work with him to make sure he develops the way they think he should, they seem very confident he was their guy. |

i don't watch at all anymore. i just hear bits about the modern stuff on corny's podcasts.
i did like sting when i was a kid though. i kind of wish he'd stop wrestling now before he dies in there. what did he do? if he still lets people buckle bomb him then he deserves whatever he gets. |

Habs saw things differently.
You presume they did not pick who they believed to be the PBA.
I will trust HuGo on this and how Reinbacher fits into their plan.
