I haven't seen any of them play like most of us, I am not an expert. We base our opinion on a few draft lists we see from people not good enough to work for NHL teams.
Draft is based on projections mostly, what they have done so far, their progression, their floor vs ceiling. Teams have scouting departments filled with people whose job is to watch and analyze everything these players do and do projections.
Habs have a new Mgmt group led by HuGo, I give them the benefit of the doubt, they know WAY more then I do about these guys. Let's be honest, we all have an opinion every year for every pick but we know (frank) all about these young players. I hear the Habs and the Arizona have been scouting Reinbacher all winter, they watched every game, practice, interviewed his coaches, teammates, talked to him many times. They own the decision now, up to them to work with him to make sure he develops the way they think he should, they seem very confident he was their guy. - Symba007
Sometimes teams over analyze and get far to much into the analytics and intricacies that it makes the obvious choices become less clear. This is one of those scenarios IMO. Leonard and Michkov were the right choices. Still no top line talent on the Habs. The most glaring issue on this team. |

Habs saw things differently.
You presume they did not pick who they believed to be the PBA.
I will trust HuGo on this and how Reinbacher fits into their plan. - Mashadar
I think it's because Martin Lapointe is still there, they still see the boogeyman with him.

Sometimes fans just rant about believing they have better answers than the guys who have a plan in place and are executing on it.

What's Montreals track record again in drafting high up? What's different between this decision and the others the organization has prioritized in the past(positional need over BPA)? Different crew, same approach. To each their own I guess. Maybe the kid will prove me wrong, but if I was to actually wager on it? I'd put my money on Leonard & Michkov. |

100% chance Julien Brisebois picks him at 37 if he's available.

Dude, we get it. You believe history is repeating itself. I am saying just because what has been done in the past by others does not mean that is what is being done here.
You insist they did not take the BPA, perhaps in their mind they did take the BPA.
Whatever, obviously you think you have a better plan in place for the Habs than HuGo.

Habs organization hasn't had a 'plan' in place for decades. That or said plan does not work organizationally. Patchwork as you go, pass on the top end first line talent is the status quo. They have plenty of overall Defensive talent and completely barren on top line talent. A chance to get that into the system FINALLY and pass it up for what most think will end up being a second pairing defenceman. |

Don’t know much about these draft choices.
But Fred has a strong case here, I think I’m gonna side with him.. |

I mean, its a message board about hockey and the draft. People going to talk about it. I prefer skepticism in this scenario instead of the usual 'in so and so we trust'. That's worked so well over the last 25 years
We'll be sure to revisit this in a couple years. If I'm wrong, I'll be more than happy to be in this scenario. Track record and history will likely be that I'm not. |
