not sure what the projections in general are but a lot of fans seem to think Reinbacher is a 2nd pairing guy, which I find would make it a very odd choice for the habs if that was the case lol
- Pat1993

He seems like the perfect fit for Lane Hutson.

I am sure that played a little bit into it, as well.

he's safe pick because he plays a mature game already in a pro league. He's not the sexy all offense player
- Symba007

I've read from a couple of sources that his skating is just OK and he needs to work on that for the NHL, also not the greatest hands and puck carrier.

All sources seem to agree that his strenghts are his two-way game and good decision making on defense and his shot, he always finds a way to get it on net.

he needs to bulk up like Guhle did when he was drafted, let's be patient with him, another year in the Swiss league and he will stronger and better prepared
- Symba007

I was a hesitant Michkov. For the reason that if he does not come over in three years, or should he not meet expectations, the media just be an absolute female dog for years. And we would also have a contingent of fans looking for a nice piece of rope to hang themselves with.

My other option was either Reinbacher, because of the crushing need at this position, or Leonard for the in your face style which the Habs could also very much use.

The more I am reading on Reinbacher though, the more I think the right move was made for this team and it's needs for the rebuild.

I tried to read the articles from before the draft. There's a crazy prop-up campaign since the draft, where before he had some flaws, now apparently they are gone

The signal will be very strong.

Especially along the boards.

Unless you get a Bedard, every player has some flaws.

The question has always been who is most likely to reach their potential and who has the tools you feel will help you better off in the long run.

Drafting is a crapshoot.

You just never know.

Maybe Bedard will be just above average or a bust, unlikely, but it could happen.

True, that happens at every draft. Weaknesses magically disappear. That's not just with the Habs though. The media of any team with a decent fan base does this. I had read a few articles on prospects before the draft to kind of make up my mind, but you can't read them all. Now the choice is made, so I am reading whatever and can find.

Might be an over correction, since reading some people you'd think he is going to peak as a Josh Gorges clone.

Some guys like Pronman were always very high on Reinbacher though.

I know that. I was speaking about guys like Mathias Brunet and other journalists now saying that we have a crazy fast mobile player while a month ago most said his skating was just above average.

As always, people cannot be reasonable in either loving of destroying the pick.

We need to stay cool and watch how he evolves.

BUT THEN AGAIN!

I know I didn't I want to read everything that trashes the guy, I just want a clear assesment of the guy and some of the things I've read in the last 24h are contrary to 95% of the scouting reports from a month ago. It's like trying to get a good grasp of the scientific impacts of global warming from reading the green party platform.

Oh I hear ya!

Check out the articles for Seattle's pick, Eduard Sale. It's a new sport for them, and I find the media have actually done a really fair job here. I don't expect that to last more than a year or two.

Haha here's where I'm at :

Pros: All-around game, good decision making
Good shot.

Cons: Skating is just above average, not the greatest skill set/hands.

Still wish they went with a little more Pazazz but we'll see in 4 years.

One of my coworkers was asking any Czech were drafted, so I told her Sale and she was happy. That's about as much reaction to the draft as I could get today.

Maybe... after drafting a player they looked into more than just surface quotes about them to see what they were really about?

I dunno.

Most of the reporters that are not all in 100% on the draft don't really know the details about players and often just look at who they are being compared to in the NHL.

I don't read the French media coverage at all, so I do not know where Brunet falls on that scale of knowledge. But I am sure all the local journalists covering their home teams are now digging deeper into the picks their teams made to give a better assessment and understanding of those players.

So yeah, lots of people will "rah rah" their team's picks, others are just getting really informed about the players potential.

I mean, some pretty good players fit that description - Pronger, Chara, Weber. Of course, there's also the other side of the coin.
